The Dawn Galveston Beach Condominiums
Reviewed 10 September 2011

This was a great place to stay in Galveston. There were two nice pools. The condo was clean and nicely furnished. The beach across the street is rocky and not accessible for swimming or sunning. Otherwise, it was great.

This was a multifamily get together which included one wheelchair in the planning mix. Because each condo is individually owned, the owners select different management companies to rent and maintain the units. This made finding units near each other challenging but not impossible. On line booking with Presitige Management and Gulf Coast Concierge went well. The units 215 and 214 were very nice and appeared basically as listed on the respective websites. During our stay each unit had some type of major problem, (refrigerator not chilling in one and air conditioner quit in the other) and each management company dispatched a person to resolve the problem right away. Over all there were little annoying maintenance problems with the units (towel racks that needed tightening, leaky toilet tank, sofa folding bed difficult to open and close because of a lost nut) but none of these little issues were a huge problem and interfered with our stay. These two units were ground level on the seawall side with a gulf view (although it was looking through a fence and traffic). The unit was wheel chair accessible however there wasn't a direct ramp from the parking and pool area up to the gulf view rooms and required the wheelchair to go out the back gate around the corner gas station in in the front gate to get from the room to the first pool. The second pool further south could be reached by going cross country over the lawn which had a gentle grade. The pool view rooms would have been more convienent if we had known. The pools were perfect for lounging around for the teenagers and younger children. The grounds and the pools where well maintained. There was a reasonable charge for wireless internet access. It was great having Walmart so close for making meals. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: The Dawn 214 is set up with one bedroom/queen and one bedroom/two bunks. This worked the best for o...

Ok...we rented #524 from Prestige Management. ONline rental application works great. We had to call because nowhere can you find information on wifi...which is a must for my hubby who is on call as a computer guy 24 x 7. The lady at the management company could have been a little more helpful because I feel that it is there job to know exactly how this works but she didn't have first hand knowledge.... that being said, we rolled the dice & made it a priority to connect to internet as soon as we got there. Connecting took another phone call from my hubby once we got there, but it worked like a champ & only cost 19.99 for the week.

The unit was absolutely gorgeous. 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom. view from the left of the balcony was the pool which was absolutely wonderful. view from the right was the ocean (across the street & seawall, but gorgeous nonetheless) . stainless steel/granite in the kitchen. master bathroom shower gorgeous. plenty of space in the bedrooms and closets.

The location was great. Across the street from the walmart. You are on the seawall, but can walk 1/2 a mile along the seawall to sand beach with lifeguard. I confess we didn't swim there but headed to the otherside of the island & took advantage of the many beach outlets.

With 4 teenagers in tow, walmart was a godsend for food shopping. However, my only complaints are about the limited amount of cooking supplies. There was only enough dishwasher soap for 1 load, we knew to bring our own laundry soap & kitchen soap. However, the unit could definately use a cookie sheet, wine opener, and a large skillet. Cooking for 4 hungry teenagers with a small skillet & a tiny single egg skillet was horrible. Also, pyrex rectangular pans would have been helpful. having more than 6 forks/knives would have also have been nice. The unit rents out for 6, but only 4 chairs provided in the dining room table. Also, no iron just an ironing board. The sleeper sofa could have used a couple of blankets.

I think the management company is very laid back which is good as long as everything goes like clockwork. For the most part, it did. We did have an issue with a shower curtain, which I called in & only got voice mail. We decided to replace it ourselves since we didn't hear from anyone but then lo and behold a maintenance guy showed up late that day & replaced it.

Note, the only thing NOT clean in this unit was the air conditioner vent. I took a picture of it when we first checked in because it was absolutely filthy. Lucky, the rest of the condo checked out just fine. Maybe the cleaning service doesn't clean the vents???

We did have an issue with the neighbors above us who constantly let their daughter run up & down their condo from 9am to 9pm. We swear she was running laps up there. We decided to not approach these people as we didn't want to start anything but for future it would have been nice to have someone to call about the constant noise.

We were supposed to be assigned 2 parking spaces but only brought 1 vehicle, a suburban. Lots of parking spaces for "comact" cars, but I'm not sure how we would have ever found parking for 2 cars as most days we had only 1 space available & that was in the compact car spot.
Highly recomment the duck tours & go check out the tree scupltures. Go by the visitor center & pickup some flyers. The lady wil even give you a card for a free appetizer at the rainforest cafe. The strand is awesome & don't miss the candy/old fashioned soda shop. Drive to the other side of the island for the beach outlets & check out the million dollar homes. We also took the free fairy over to bolivian pennisula & saw a few dolphins. We were tired so we didn't stay long to explore the penninsula so maybe next time. also, even if you can't afford the somewhat expensive Rainforest cafe, do walk the seawall in front of this restaurant at night. Rainforest hires street entertainers like magicians, etc . We easily spent 3 hours outside watching the shows, participating in dance contests & hula hoop contest...oh and after dark, the rainforest cafe's outside volcano erupts every 1/2 hour...very cool..and all very free! family fun stuff...

Stay away from condo #237. The owner obviously does not care about the condo as the furniture is hand-me-down, the queen bed creaks and falls to the center, the old TV is a clunker and the 15" TV in the bedroom did not work. The balcony had two $5.00 plastic chairs of which one was broken. There is no WiFi, so don't bother bringing your laptop. And be prepared to lug your luggage and other necessities up two flights of stairs to the third floor. And finally, if you book through Prestige Mgmt, be sure to read the fine print in the five page email they send you. They add costs not disclosed up front ($56 for cleaning, $29 sign up fee, $30 damage insurance).

I felt the condo was great. We had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Cooking equipment, games for the kids, and walmart right next door for anything we needed. We had one small problem that was fixed the day after we told the maintenance guy. (who was also very nice). The transaction was handled for easily. I went through prestige management. Not all condos are represented by the same management company. We were right on the seawall and could see the gulf right out our sliding glass door. It was a wonderful vacation.

Our family of four had a wonderful experience at The Dawn Condos! The unit was immaculate and beautifully decorated! The fully appointed kitchen had stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops. The bathrooms were beautiful as well with granite counters and tile floors. The bedrooms had plush carpeting and the remainder of the condo was tiled. We were on the first row of units so our balcony looked out directly onto the seawall. The view of the gulf was fantastic! The condo grounds are wonderfully maintained and there are two sparkling pools for your enjoyment. There's also a workout room for guests. The location is great and it was nice and quiet. We will definitely be returning! Thanks for the wonderful stay!!

Arrival and check in were easy, I called the number on the reservation confirmation and was guided to a unit a mile away on the seawall. We had been sent an e-mail too but I'd missed it.

The condo was excellent, third floor, sea front, large, clean, well fitted out, nice balcony etc

Sun rise was great each morning, lovely weather although it did get very windy. Watched the dolphins come by most mornings too which was great.

The condos have secure, free parking and are within very easy reach of a fuel station and a Wal Mart.

The only slight downside was the traffic noise, the Seawall Boulevard is very busy, even early and late in the day, and the windows didn't do much to keep the noise out. It didn't really affect us much but if the windows had been better, the condos couldn't be faulted
