“This is the place to go in Galveston!”
Reviewed 17 February 2006

We frequently travel to Galveston, Texas to enjoy the coast or taking in a show at the Grand. This month we stayed at the Victorian Inn as a surprise treat for my wife's birthday, and I wanted to try a new place hoping for a special trip. And what a nice treat it was. Normally we are a "on the go" couple, but this time we wanted to rest and relax. This is the place. The mansion is over 100 years old and is in excelent condition. The room we stayed in (Laura's Room) was very roomy and had an outdoor balcony where we sat and watched the world go by. Inside the closet, two warm robes were provided as if we were at a posh hotel. The public sitting and lounging area is spacious compared to other B & B's. And the library....so many books to choose from. A special treat was the 24-hour snack station downstairs in the butler's pantry. Coffee, hot tea, nuts, cookies, etc were there whenever we wanted. The refrigerator was available for cool drinks and complimentary wine. We sipped it on the chairs on the balcony. At breakfast, Marcy prepared a feast of various hot items and other goodies, all more than we could eat. Being runners, Marcy even allowed us to go for a jog with her dog "Baby". We plan on returning and offer our complete recommendation without any reservations whatsoever. Overall...a positive experience without any regrets. Thanks Marcy!!! Anthony & Diane

This bed and breakfast is alive with the history of the past century. One of few buildings to survive the worst natural disaster in the US, it was a treat to get to visit and stay at this wonderful B&B.

The beautiful, intricate hardwood floors, georgeous antiques, crystal chandeliers and unique room design made up for the lack of central air conditioning (and the window unit AC kept the bedroom icy cold - we were shivering at night until we turned it down).

The butler's pantry with coffee, wine, cookies, nuts, fruits, etc. available 24 hours a day was a real treat.

The rooms do not have televisions or phones, although both are available in the house 24 hours a day.

Our room (Issac's) shared a bathroom with two other rooms, which was never a problem. Terry cloth robes are provided for quick trips down the hall or to wear down to breakfast.

The B&B was full during our stay, but we only met the other house mates at breakfast. We spent an afternoon drinking the provided wine on the front verandah watching the bunnies and petting the house dog Baby. The morning was spent reading on the upstairs balcony. The house is about 1/2 a mile (under 10 minute walk) from the Strand district, which was our evening destination.

Marcy is a sweet, wonderful hostess. She greeeted us with an open door and warm heart. We really enjoyed hearing her tell the stories of the house's construction and renovations after being filled with 24 feet of water during the great storm of 1900. The house has been lovingly restored to the period. (With the exception of those wonderful window unit air conditioners!)

Inn keeper Marcy Hanson is the perfect hostess for this wonderful restored Victorian mansion. It's located in the historic East end neighborhood - survived the 1900 storm by an eyelash. From the Inn you can walk to the Strand and shop or visit the harbor. Or you can take a 15 minute walk to the beach and take a break at the Galvez lobby bar.5 minutes to the best Mexican restaurant on the island (maybe I'm biased). Oh yeah, try her chocolate chip cookies with the house white wine!
