The Ashton Villa Mansion was not open for tours. But it's nice to walk the grounds and visit the visitor's center, which is housed inside the Ashton Villa. I also went to the Ladie's Room and that was on the back of the ground floor of the Ashton Villa. Hopefully one day I can return and it will be open for tours but they only offer tours for tour groups, I was told.

We often have out of town company and spend lots of time in Galveston. This is one place we always visit.

Take your time to enjoy this beautiful home! It's remarkable how they built such gorgeous homes in Galveston! We enjoy the tour over and over plus driving down the city streets looking at all of the colorful homes that have been updated since the last hurricane. Fun to do!

This was the first stop on our island architecture tour. We also toured Bishop's Palace & Moody Mansion. These are three very beautiful mansions. It's hard to believe some of the things that were put into the houses. All three are well worth the time & money for the tours. The Moody Mansion was the better for us, mainly because of our guide. Ashton Villa felt more personable, like we could actually live there with a decent guide. Bishop's Palace was grand on all accounts.

Please be advised that we went with a historical society and that the house is not normally open for tours. It is the site of the welcome center so you can see the grounds and a little bit without a set up tour. Our tour lasted about an hour. The guide was knowledgeable about the house & was able to provide some good insight. This trip was well worth our time & money and we would do it again! One last note. My wife & I were there alone. Had we brought our kids we probably would have found another attraction. There were no kids in the group and I believe this would not really hold their interest. No sitting on furniture, no touching or leaning on the walls, etc.. Use your own judgement. But for a pair of architecture & old-tyme nuts, it was right up our alley!

Be forewarned -tours of this home have to be arranged
The house is truly beautiful and the guide was very knowledgeable about the home and family.
Photography is allowed on the 1st floor but not the 2nd - bummer
