For $18/person, find something better to do with your money. After reading the reviews, I wasn't sure I wanted to do this tour. But my teenage kids and I are regulars in Galveston and this is something we have never done.
We arrived at 10:30 for the 11:00 tour and we were the last to get on. Be sure if you go during the summer, you get there early enough. I thought it was an hour and a half long tour, but our captain made it clear that it would only be one hour. It was vry windy today, so at times it was difficult to hear some of what he was saying.
I felt the first half was pretty much a waste. There were a few actual informative tidbits but it was mostly about restaurants, times they are open, how many stars he rates them. I can get that info for free at the visitor center or the concierge if you are staying at a hotel. I didn't want to pay for a traveling restaurant review.
The 2nd half was more informative. Though I knew most of what he pointed out, I still like hearing the history of these things.
What really irked me was the captain's personality. He made several snide comments throughout the tour. He personally made a rude comment to me when the tour was over and he was getting off the boat. I don't normally let things bother me and let it go. However, as I got off the boat and handed him his tip, he made another comment! I was truly offended and just turned to walk away. Had my tip not already been in his hand, it would have been right back in my purse. I knew I hadn't taken it the wrong way because my 17 year old son was also offended.
To sum it up, do something else. Unless you really just want to ride the Duck vehicle (like my kids did and I'm sure many others do), do something else to save your time and money.
