“Informative musum”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2014

This museum is very good for showing the public the absolute basics of offshore oil drilling as well as the basic concepts of oil drilling on land. Drilling is drilling. Yes this decommissioned oil platform is dated but does that really matter? I don't think so. Most people have little to no knowledge of how companies explore for and drill for petroleum off shore. It's a good place for kids also. It's like walking around inside the fire engine that they have always wanted to get a ride in. You can do the museum in about an hour or you can take longer.

“First Time Visitor and Glad We did it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2014

This is a very reasonably priced exhibit. Were going to see something else, but saw that this was open daily. We decided on a whim to go tour the Ocean Star. Good quality information, state of the art, two levels to go outside and see actual pieces of the oil rig. Three levels inside. Would go again. We spent two hours inside just looking at everything.

“interesting for someone not in the industry”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2014

I was really not impressed with this place because I work on an oilrig and this has been decommissioned for some time. It was hard to see the working of the rig and explain it to the people I was with. You didn't get to see all parts of the actual rig. Things were placed around just to show off what they are and not placed where they should be to understand it better.
I was really looking forward to this experience just to see how different offshore drilling was compared to a land-based rig. We didn't opt for the recorded headphones tour because I was able to explain everything to them. Maybe next time I will try the headphones and it will explain the tour better.

“Providing good insights into the complexity of the off shore business”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2014

The museum provides excellent insights into the challenges and complexities of the off shore oil and gas business. Great models and a collecion of life size displays combined with interaction are making it a sight worth visiting.
You might want to remember that it is an industry sponsored exhibition so you won't find a lot of downsides of the business but that is not a reason to pass by and ignore the place.
I would go again when in town another year.
