After Hurricane Ike hit Galveston Island, many old trees were lost. However, several homeowners decided to not chop the dead trees down but employed 3 tree sculptors to create works of art. With chainsaws in hand creative sculptures came to life. You can get a map of all the current tree sculptures for a fun site seeing adventure and quest. Often the sculpture is linked to the history of the house, such as the one of The Tin Man and Toto from the Wizard of Oz at the house of King Vidor who directed the movie. They are all so clever and fun to see. What a unique way to explore the Island.
