Our family of 3 did an escorted group tour of this home. A charming southern belle led our tour and was well versed on the history of this home while interjecting humor and grace. It is a beautiful property that represents 2 periods of history which clash a bit throughout the interior design of the home. But it is representative of it past dwellers. We enjoyed the tour and the beauty of this home and city. It is currently owned by the Catholic church but the historical society is hoping to purchase it this fall. So visit soon to make your contribution to preserving this charming jewel of Galveston's history.

It feels like you're stepping back in time when you enter Bishop's Palace to the turn of the century. There's so much detail, and there are many beautiful furnishings. It's amazing how much history could be in just one house.

We toured the mansion using the audio guided tour which was informative though sometimes didn't keep my interest. Not a lot of furniture or artifacts were in the house which was explained in the tour, but i would have preferred there to be more period things to see to make the house seem more alive. No indoor photography is allowed which is disappointing, but then again you are not going to be annoyed by other amateur photographer's flash photography distracting you constantly. The exterior of the mansion is very impressive though it is evident there is much need for restoration due to the age of the mansion and from the beating its received from the last hurricane. They are still needing to raise a lofty sum to finish roof repairs.

The Bishop's Palace is an excellent house to tour. Individual headsets and audio matches up with photos is each room. Great detail. Rooms really impressive, lots of history in this old house.
