It has been years since I have been in the Palace but I still remember how beautiful it was. A wonderful example of architecture and furnishings of the time.

The furnishings and architecture are very beautiful in this house. When you walk through the front door, it's as if you walk back in time to turn-of-the-century Galveston. However, our tour guide was a little snooty when it came to answering questions about the original family. We found the answers on the internet, but it would have been more helpful to have shared that information on the tour. For those of you that get creeped out easily, someone died in one of the upstairs bedrooms. Also, this tour would not be great for young children or anyone who has trouble walking. There are a lot of stairs that must be climbed to get to the 3rd floor. Lastly, they do not allow photos of any kind. So you don't get to capture any memories to put in your scrapbook, unless you buy someting in the small giftshop in the basement. The cost was $10 ($2 going to roof program). Go to the visitor center at Ashton Villa and they have $1 off coupons.

I heard about this attraction on a tour and thought it looked really cool. This place is a stunning home built in the late 1800's. They have these headsets that give you an audio tour through the different stations of the home! The design and architecture of this home is just magnificent. Even though we did not have an actual tour guide, the headset provided more then enough information. I would have loved to go visit the third floor, but i guess it was not opened to tourists. Regardless, this is an awesome place to visit while in Galveston!

This was a very well-done tour of a truly stunning home. The tour was quite focused on architectural and design details (e.g., the type of wood used for the paneling in each room), but our guide still managed to incorporate a good bit of history about the family who lived there originally and the bishop who subsequently moved in. Our guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. I just wish we had been able to see the third floor, but (according to the guide) there is some fire regulation that prevents large groups from going upstairs. Regardless, the tour was very worthwhile for history buffs! It's a great way to spend an hour if you're exploring Galveston!
