After having been to Galveston for many years, my husband and I finally visited here on a child-free weekend. We chose a guided tour with Lloyd last Sat afternoon, and really enjoyed. You can opt for self-guided tour with head sets as well. Interesting to learn the history of it, who has lived there, and just see all of the beautiful and ornate work. I can see where this is not the kind of place for young children. Let's help the Galveston Historical Society protect and preserve this amazing landmark!

We had early afternoon tour that was very enjoyable. Our docent, Lloyd, was very personable and extremely knowledgable about the home. He is with the Galveston Historical Society which purchased Bishop's Palace two months ago. He knew many extra details about the Gresham family . We took the group tour and were allowed to walk around the home afterward and take photos. One interesting fact Lloyd shared was during the hurricane of 1900 Mrs. Gresham stood on the second floor balcony with a servant and rescued over 200 people floating by in the water. She allowed all of them to stay in the mansion. He showed us all of the hidden nooks in the home. The home has amazing architecture and wonderful craftsmanship and is a must see. If Lloyd is the docent you're in for a treat!

We stopped here yesterday kind of by chance. We had read about the house but were driving by and it looked so interesting we stopped and took the guided tour. By all means take the guided tour. You can do a self guided tour but having an expert tell you about all of the interesting history is soooo much better. This house has a fascinating history and the architecture is beautiful. Take an hour and step back in time.

I liked this tour much better than the Moody Mansion. The fact you can do a tour with a hand held speaker is great as you can go at your own pace.
