“Don't miss this”

I lived 4 blocks away from this site for 3 years (25 years ago) but never visited until this year. Don't make my mistake if you are in Galveston. The house is spectacular and the audio guide gives you a real feel of what the house was like in its heyday. The staff are also fantastic at explaining the house and making you feel really welcome.

“Worth the visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 May 2014 via mobile

I really enjoyed this house. We took a self guided tour. The interpretation provided on the automated recording was informative. I typically don't like recordings, and prefer live guides, but this allowed us to go at our own pace. The stained glass is magnificent. The light fixtures, murals, painted ceilings and gorgeous woodwork are beautiful. House museum buffs will love it! Also has a great gift shop.

“Interested in early Victorian life in Galveston”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 April 2014

Enjoyed this tour at $10 pp. The docent who took us room by room was excellent in painting the era right before us. Followed the owners of this beautiful mansion and the characteristics of the family who commissioned the building of this glorious home right through present day. Really enjoyed this tour.

“Historic mansion”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2014

I enjoyed the visit to the Bishops House, its worth a visit. The house is relatively well preserved and the audio guided tour was very informative. Two floors are open to the public with the third floor closed as renovations are needed. The formal rooms are very handsome and you can imagine the events that would have taken place there when it was a prominent residence in Galveston. The fact that the house later was the home of the Bishop of Galveston made the visit even more interesting as you were able to visit the chapel where mass was said next door to the Bishop's bedroom. All in all a distinctive house with a very interesting history.
