At the tip of the island, Seawolf park offers the best on- and off-shore fishing in the area, picnic tables and playgrounds, and basketball and volleyball courts. The American Undersea Warfare Center is home to two historic WWII vessels; the USS Cavalla attack submarine, and the USS Stewart Destroyer Escort. “It' closed!”
Reviewed 13 April 2014

Drove down there today with family and saw the barricade indicating it was closed. Wish we knew ahead of time. They should have some signs up on Broadway and Harbour Dr letting people know. Maybe it should be broadcasted on the news. Anyways it always a nice place to fish and let the kids play. Very disappoited after driving from Houston.

“Closed - due to oil spill?”
Reviewed 10 April 2014

Drove over to Pelican Island to visit Seawolf Park, but the road was blocked off, with no explanation. Very disappointed that nothing in town indicated this park was closed. This was April 9, 2014.

“Love it!”
Reviewed 26 March 2014

we had a picnic in the park, then toured the submarine and the ship. The entrance fee to the park was minimal as well as the fee for the tours. My kids loved it! I suggest if you've never been, to check it out.

“good outing for families with children”
Reviewed 21 March 2014

We toured the submarine and the destroyer escort with 3 of our grandchildren and their parents, and it was a very interesting outing for all age groups. The boys learnt about WW II, and it was eye opening for all of us, how claustrophobic it would be to have to live and work on a submarine for months at a time. The sleeping bunks even on the destroyer escort must have no more than 2 feet one above the other - unreal! - The price for this outing was very reasonable, and it also was great fun watching the ferries and freighters of all sizes navigating the bay - great way to spend a morning!

“If the parents need a break, a good place for the kids to play.”
Reviewed 15 March 2014

Parking is $6, and the tours of the sub & ship is $5/adult, and $2/child. However, the park also has a playground, a basketball court, and lots of room to run. There is a small pier as well, and you can watch the Galveston/Bolivar ferries and huge tanker ships criss-cross the bay.
