What was Galveston Island Municipal Golf Course is now Moody Gardens Golf Course, now under the management of the resort of the same name. It has been completely redesigned with better hole layouts, great fairway grass and very good bunkers. The greens putt true and are of medium speed.
There is a nice practice area with driving range, chipping and pitching area with a trap and putting green. The shorebirds have been mentioned before and add to the experience. This is a typical island course where one plays the wind and the only trees are palms. This is also a challenging course with water on almost every hole. I recommend you leave your ego at home and move up one tee box. Lots of water to frustrate the not-so-straight hitter. A great design feature is that the red tees take the water out of all first shots - good for ladies, juniors and seniors who don't have that old distance they once had. I think there are a total of 5 or 6 tee boxes.
Green fees are based on residency with a sliding scale from island resident to adjacent county resident to out-of-towner. Nobody pays more than about 70 bucks including cart. Weekday rates are lower than weekend, and twilight rates are also offered. This is a nice course to walk and pull carts are available. Tee times are a good idea, but the staff is always eager to work people in.
