Description: Texas Monthly Magazine - "This bright, cheery cafe located near the Medical Center enjoys a legion of foodie fans. Weekday lunches feature great salads, sandwiches, po'boys, and one of our faves-tacos loaded with grilled fish, crunchy cabbage slaw, and a house-made rémoulade that brings it all together. On the weekends we return for a brunch of fluffy biscuits topped with sinfully rich cream gravy and a pitcher of mimosas with fresh squeezed OJ. Oh yeah."

Having eaten at the establishment the parent's of these girls had, Waterman's, I did have some expectations. I was not disappointed! The food was delicious, generous and priced appropriately. The ambiance was okay, however, the noice was too high in the main dining area to hear the person I was dining with clearly. We moved to the back room and it was better. We tried to come a little before the regular lunch crowd as the place really does brisk business! I enjoyed my selection of baked chicken, could have been cooked a little bit longer, steamed spinach, yum, mashed red potatoes with skins, stellar! and a little bite of bread pudding, too sweet for me, no raisins. I think they do well, because they have a varied menu, varied price availability and they are in a location right next to the hospital, so they not only get the employees but folks visiting their family folks in the hospital. The special touch at Farley Girls is the personal touch. One of the Owners always comes by to check on how you like your food, if you have any comments or if you need anything and they always do right by the customer if there's been a problem or mistake!! Highly recommend it! The personal pizzas are fab!

Here we have a bright new restaurant, currently open for lunch only, right next to the medical center.
The menu is more extensive than your typical luncheonette, with items from sandwiches to mini-diners. Feeling boring, I ordered meatloaf. Not boring. On a base of texas toast, the tasty meatloaf was covered in a tangy thick sauce, (apparently) real (not out of a box) mashed potatoes, and fried onion strings. As lunch food, a cut above.
Atmosphere is bright and cheery. Windows run from floor to ceiling, decor is a touch of '40s Galveston, with tile floor, a modest sprinkling of hardwood, and high ceilings.
It's self-service, from ordering to pickup, so the service is as good as you want to be. Of course this can be an issue if you're disabled, but, since the people behind the counter had a very good attitude, I suspect they will accommodate.
One big downside: it's across the street from the main hospital. This means you're going to have a devil of a time finding a parking space on the street. Not wanting to spend an exorbitant amount at the parking garage, I circled the block three times before finding a place 1.5 blocks away. Sad to say, that alone will probably keep me from returning. But it's worth a try once.
