“Always consistent”

The food is always good. The staff is always friendly and it's like being away from home on a long trip and returning to an old favorite. It's fried but damn it is good.

“Just so-so”
Reviewed 5 April 2014 via mobile

We went on a Friday night. It was busy, but we got in quick. Fast service, but the food was just mediocre. Crawfish was ok- could have been seasoned more. They just sprinkled the seasoning on top of the crawfish, corn & potatoes instead of boiling it with seasoning. The whole flounder was not that good. It was overcooked, the bottom was the best part. The fish & shrimp was overly battered it tasted bland and more like crust than fish & shrimp. We expected much better and were unfortunately disappointed.

“Delicious poboys ”
Reviewed 30 March 2014 via mobile

This place has great reasonably priced food. I love their poboys and slaw. I'm an islander and enjoy coming here when they are open. There is nothing fancy about this place. No fancy decorations but what matters is the food. They have my favorite poboys on the island. Sitting outside during a nice sunset is always a great way to enjoy their food.

“One of my all-time favorite restaurants”
Reviewed 27 March 2014

The food isn't fru fru, but it IS comfort food! You get a lot for a little. My favorite is the fried oyster po-boy. They toast the bread with garlic butter (that's a good start!). Then they layer it with salad and fried oysters. The fries were good, and the hushpuppies the best! You'll never leave Bennos hungry.

The decor isn't the greatest, but I'm not going there to look at the place. I'm going for the food!

I'm from Galveston county originally and know a lot of locals who eat here.

“Good but not great food”
Reviewed 22 March 2014

Good food and casual atmosphere---customers order at the counter and the service is friendly and prompt. Have been to Bennos on other visits to Galveston and found the food quite good, but this last time, my oysters were a bit soggy and they were served over some somewhat greasy fried potatoes with so so coleslaw on the side. Being an oyster afficianado, I overlooked the sogginess and instead focused on the freshness of the oysters. Yes, they were very fresh! The rest of the meal I left on my plate, mostly uneaten. I will try them again, perhaps it was an off day.
