I ate here recently and had dinner service at the bar with a family member. The restaurant is perhaps the most popular in Galveston for higher end dining and we were ready to wait for a table, as we had no reservations, but ended up getting very lucky and landed two spots at the bar during the height of dinner service, Make no mistake, people do not come here to drink. They come here to eat and do so at the bar if they can. A spot at the bar is as coveted as a spot in the dining room on a weekend. Suffice it to say, we had great service, great food, and even great conversation with the bar tenders on our visit as long as they thought we were spending money. But the second, literally the second, our plates were cleared and the bar tenders felt we were done we might as well have been in Siberia. After lots of warm conversation from the staff, we were ignored. Our waters were not filled, we were not asked it we wanted another drink, which we did. The objective was clear---clear the seats, this even though there appeared to be no wait and even though we were seated at the bar. The bar staff went from super warm to super cold in a heart beat the second they thought we might be done spending money. That left a very sour--almost three star---taste in our mouths. But the food here is that good and so I still give it a four star (five stars would have been forthcoming with better service). If you are spending well-north of 100 bucks for dinner for two and you are sitting at a bar, that, to me, deserves not only good service, but great service until the moment you walk out the door, not the moment the bartenders think that you are no longer a revenue source.. Dinner doesn't stop when the plates are cleared. The crap service at the end very nearly ruined a quite excellent meal for us.
