Great film depicting the aftermath of the worst hurricane in history! Well worth the admission price!

“amazingly informative !”
Reviewed 19 February 2012

Galveston is full of amazing history......one of the richest cities in the country at the turn of the 20th century, wiped out by the 1900 storm and the development of the Houston Ship Channel--Galveston today is a laid back tourist town with great beaches--and when the sun gets too hot, head down to the historic district to tour gorgeous homes remaining from the era of riches ! What a town !

“Museum Closed After Ike & Left Derelict”
Reviewed 14 September 2009

I have enjoyed touring the Galveston County Historical Museum downtown in the past years. It was a rainy afternoon on a recent visit, so we decided to go spend some time at the museum.

Much to our disappoint, there was sign in the window stating that the museum had been moved to a new location due to Hurricane Ike. If you look inside the glass door, you see soft drink cans and newspapers strewn around the lobby. The outside entryway was filthy with pigeon droppings and litter.

I know that there are many, many priorities that push this museum to the back of the clean-up line, but at the very least, couldn't someone take a water hose and wash the outside entryway, and clean up the litter in the lobby?

It is very sad to see that this great old building is being left to rot.
