“Open, But Still Recovering From Hurricane Ike”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 April 2012

Like most people growing up I had a fascination with trains and this museum allows you to get up and close with some vintage railroad cars, steam engines and cabooses. They even have a model railroad display, but it isn't open because of the damage from Ike. In fact the museum lost a couple of their rail cars from the hurricane. Admission is 6 dollars as of April 2012, but you can only view a few of the cars instead of the many you could walk through before Ike. If you've seen the Railroad Museum before you may want to skip it. On Saturdays they offer a train ride for an extra charge. One thing I found annoying is over the speakers they play a continuous audio loop of what sounds like a steam engine departing a station. The train's bell sounds as like it's "dragging" like an old cassette tape.

“Step back in time”

The sculptues, now re-done after the hurriane, add to the reality of a time when I was a child and this was "real" and active.

“Must See”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 March 2012

They have done a remarkable job recovering from Ike! Take a look at the photos they have put up in the train station part and you can see how far they have come. Our sons loved being able to go into some of the train cars. The train station had statues set up in various parts to replicate what it may have been like way back when. And once again was impressed with the not so expensive prices of the gift shop. Extremely courteous staff!
