“Terrific museum and library”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 October 2013

the woman in charge of the computers is always very rude but everyone else is really helpful. the museum within the library is great, and i love seeing the artifacts of the island's history. the children's library is awesome! and they have a LOT of DVD's to check out so it's a great, free place to entertain kids and adults.

“Great Place to search for Galveston Genealogy”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 September 2013

I have family who lived in Galveston during the "Great Storm" of 1900. Wanted more genealogy on the family and came here to do research. I found so much new information. They have an extensive newspaper archive on michofilm. Lots of easy to research books. Staff was very helpful in pulling items from the back for further research.

“Rosenberg Library”

They have a great used book sales program that helps keep reading alive. While small the top floor museum has several interesting displays showing the role the harbor played in the early growth of Galveston. Small but well worth the time.

“Fantastic Resource for Galveston History”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2013

Rosenberg Library has a wealth of historical information about Galveston available either online or in the library. One of my favorite galleries is the James M. Lykes Maritime Gallery - http://rosenberg-library-museum.org/exhibits/galleries/lykes/treasure.island/lykes.htm - permanent exhibit. It has nautical artifacts from its steamship company and a beautiful art glass window depicting the Doctor Lykes, the first ship used by Lykes Line.

You will also see special displays like the McGivney Award Winners, "Abstract Egret" and other traveling exhibits constantly changing. Online you can view online exhibits including, Seawall and Storm Exhibit and more Galveston history. Speaking of history, if you are wanting an in-depth study of Galveston and Texas, visit the Galveston & Texas History Center. Look around while you are walking or sitting in the library and view paintings of all kinds.

The Rosenberg Library is the oldest public library in Texas, opening its doors on June 22, 1904 opening on Henry Rosenberg's birthday, one of its patrons. The library has Wi-Fi access.

Nice building with a lot of historic bids and pieces you need some time if you like to read all descriptions, it's a must when you are in Galveston, you can make it a short visit or you take your time.
