The top floor of the library is a museum. There are a number of interesting artifacts, paintings, large model ships, and informative photographs from Galveston's history. There's also a wonderful stained glass window.

We stopped by when we were waiting for Moody Mansion to open. There is free parking across the street from the library. The library is also across the street from the Galveston Visitor's Center, so you can stop by the center to get maps, information, and recommendations.

I recently bought some property in Galveston, and I wanted to know more about my new house, especially its age. I visited the Historical Society on the fourth floor of the library, and the gentleman working that day was helpful and eager to help me find the answer to my questions. Turns out my little cottage survived the 1900 storm as well as all the other hurricanes and storms since. Excellent resource for those researching gulf coast history.

The Rosenberg library is a grand building. It is one of several public buildings funded by this man.

The fourth floor has one room devoted to the history of Galveston - to include its civil war battles.

The information is nicely displayed and worth the seeing.

When we were visiting, there was also a special art show on level 4 of Galveston buildings. It was sad to discover that many of the buildings featured in these paintings no longer exist.

There is also a history research area but this was not open when we were there.

Free parking right by the tourist information center.

The library building itself is a beautiful historical place! When you walk inside you feel like you went back in time! They have added a lot of features to the first floor through the restoration after the hurricane to the children's area!! It also has a huge historical museum area! Doing any kind of research is pure pleasure!

the woman in charge of the computers is always very rude but everyone else is really helpful. the museum within the library is great, and i love seeing the artifacts of the island's history. the children's library is awesome! and they have a LOT of DVD's to check out so it's a great, free place to entertain kids and adults.
