“Quiet, clean hotel within walking distance to beach...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2010

Even though it isn't in the middle of the busiest part of the beach, this hotel has it's pluses. It's just a short walk to the beach and we felt like we were the only ones staying there since the noise level was so low. The management was very pleasant and accomodating. Continental breakfast included fresh waffles, pastries, sausage, cereal, and I forget what elese, but it was good! Very friendly place to stay with no hassles!

We always have to look for a hotel room with a pull out couch now as our kids are getting a little bigger. Our kids are age 11 and 15. We wanted a hotel that was nearest the gulf as we could get and we didn't want to pay 200.00 a night so we picked this hotel. The hotel sits back a little more than the ones next to it, but the 3rd floor has a great view of the gulf. It was worth paying the extra money for the balcony. We really enjoyed it. The room was a little small for our family, but it worked out for three nights. If I was staying longer I probably would not stay there. The beds were crammed up next to the walls so one person on each bed had to climb over the bed to their side. There is no sink on the counter where the microwave and refrigerator is and we really could have used one as there was always someone in the bathroom and there was only one trash can which was in the bathroom which we could have used another one in the room by the refrigerator. Those were only minor things. What was bad was that the water quit working while we were there in the middle of showers. We called the front desk and the maintenance guy turned off the water system and turned it back on and then there was yellow rust coming out of the pipes. We ran the water for a while and it cleared up but the water in the toilet remained yellow. They said there hotel and the ones next to it were having a sewage problem and there was rust in the line. While we were there our TV cable quit working. We called the front desk and they never came to fix it. We called again and the maintenance guy finally came to replace the cable wire. The microwave also could not handle cooking 4 individual size popcorn packages before it quit working for the night. So there were some problems. The breakfast was a normal continental breakfast, but you did have to get up early as they quit putting out extra food before 9 AM. The breakfast was over by 9:30, but they just let the food run out by 9. The pool wasn't large, but we mainly went swimming in the gulf. This hotel was in a good location, but not right across from the part of the beach that everyone went to. We drove to Stewart Beach each day and paid the $8.00 for a nicer part of the beach that had rest rooms. I just don't think I would stay there again if we were to go back. The Holiday Inn Express Suites was right next door and looked better, but was $60.00 more per night. This hotel does have WI FI, but we had some problems figuring it out at first.

Upon arrival the hotel clerk was friendly and helpful about local attractions and eateries. This hotel was close to our desired attractions. Our stay was quiet and it seemed as if we were the only guests. The complimentary breakfast was wonderful.

I was disappointed with this hotel choice.

I made a late reservation for Memorial Day weekend and was thrilled when I found a place that I thought was only a block from the beach. It is true that it's only one block from the seawall but what I didn't know is that that the beaches have washed away along the seawall west of 61st. They washed away during the hurricane and weren't rebuilt. It is a short drive to get to a beach but I missed the convenience of having a room close by and I hate getting that sand in my car.

The room appeared to be recently remodeled and was clean but you could tell that they skimped on a lot of things. The towels were like sand paper, the TV had a fuzzy picture, the iron board barely stood up and the iron had been bungee corded to it making it difficult to use, the room seemed dark especially in the bathroom and the A/C had only two options (on or off) and the temperature control didn't work.. The free breakfast is typical, nothing special.

Service was less than desired. I was told that I could check in at 3:00. I arrived at 5:00 after spending the day on the beach. A room was not ready because they hadn't cleaned it yet. After quite a bit of time passed, they finally decided to upgrade me to a room that was clean. The upgrade was a room with a balcony and a view of a field of weeds.

Spend a few extra bucks and stay somewhere better.

It was so refreshing moving to the Comfort Suites on 89th ST. The hotel was spotless, very well appointed, bright and the staff pleasant. Breakfast was as expected from Choice Hotels. Would definitely go back. Make sure you get the correct Comfort Hotel. Outdoor pool was a plus since it was very windy on the beach.

Spring break week in a beach town is hectic so we expected elevated prices, no vacancies, and lots of noise. And we weren’t disappointed! This place just seems a bit disorganized & not exactly guest friendly in some ways. Even during spring break, breakfast ended at 9:30, so beware and know where the nearest donut shop is located. The Comfort Suites we’re stayed in seem noisier than other hotels. You can hear sounds between rooms, and hear conversations from the hallways like they are in your room. This was true of this property as well. Also it seems that management doesn’t enforce any quiet hours at night. -- The bedspread had a dried, crusty mess on it. We tossed it on the floor and never touched it again. The crusty stain was obvious, so I’m sure housekeeping was just ignoring it. We lost something while there and were looking under the bed with a flashlight. Instead of finding our item, we found other interesting things including layer on layer of dust bunnies. On the surface, the hotel is clean. But it does need some good cleaning to help the rooms smell fresher. And under the beds might be a good place to start getting rid of dust bunnies. If you have allergies, this isn't going to help you breathe!

This hotel was nice for our family of 6. Nice rooms and comfortable beds. Good breakfast also. Location was nice, great view of the ocean and close to everything. Movie theaters across the street and mini golf course. We are definitely staying here again when we go back to Galveston.
