The room was nice and the bed very comfortable. The only problem was the gaggle of high school girls roaming the halls all night. at about 3AM one of them was screaming outside our door ! we had to call the front desk twice before the commotion finally stopped

The wife and I decided spontaneously to go to the coast (we're both from CA and miss the beach). This was our second Galveston exploration. I had some Priority Club points so we cashed them in for a night at the Holiday Inn Resort. It's located very close to the convention center and the Hilton and San Juan resorts. The beach is literally across the street and there are multiple restaurants within walking distance. We had the pleasure of checking in with Jon Pierre (a local, although the name indicates otherwise) who was quite gracious taking care of our requests. We ended up on the third floor overlooking a small, but sparkling pool. There's a connected wading pool for little ones. Being a Thursday, it wasn't overly crowded. It's really a family friendly place, though the children around weren't overwhelming at all. Most of the parking is behind the hotel, and the corridors are on the exterior, which is rare for IHG hotels. The room was well decorated with a modern touch. The beds were firm. Our room had a microwave and fridge, even a little bigger than a standard mini fridge. The hotel is aging, but is being cared for and the grounds are beautiful.
We stopped by the bar for happy hour, patronized by mostly older folks and even some locals. They had good drink and appetizer prices. The blackened shrimp were delicious, the Shiner was frosty. Only 3 beers on tap though (boo!). Overall, this is a comfortable hotel in a prime location. When in Galveston, we recommend eating at Benno's on the Beach for fresh seafood (casual/low key dining), visiting the Strand, the historical downtown district, and driving down Seawall Blvd to the western portion of the island to enjoy gorgeous Caribbean-styled beach homes and uncrowded beach access. An amusement park is being built on a pier east of the hotel where a historic hotel once stood, and we saw construction activity when we walked by. More incentive to visit again. Cheers.

The room was excellent.T.V. and internet worked great.
Walk on over to the Rainforest Cafe'.First time
for us there and the atmosphere and food was
excellent.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the pool.

We stayed a Friday night, with the executive king room oceanfont views. All in all hotel was ok. But for a room cost at over $250 one would expect it to be above average. This fell a bit short of expectations for a presumably higher end Holiday Inn.

Ocean front view comes with a view of the top of a very large roof over the lobby with A/C units which was not even very nicely kept up or organized. A bit of an eyesore in contrast to the ocean view.

The wi-fi, although free, was pretty weak and kept dropping out, requiring sitting near the window for better performance.

A smoke detector battery was getting low and kept emitting a beep every 20 minutes in the middle of the night. Front desk did not seem overly concerned and did not even apologize for the inconvenience.

This was enough that we would rather spend a few bucks more and go next door to what looked like a much nicer hotel at the San Luis Resort. Or even quite a few bucks less ($110) at Gaido's where we once had an oceanfront "no frills" room closer to the beach and which has two restaurants and a nice bar on the premises, and Joe's Crab Shack a block away. So far in Galveston we had a better experience at Gaido's than the Holiday Inn.

We were happy with our room and the staff was helpful with recommendations for restuarants, etc.. But - our room was on the 4th floor, about level with the top of the palm trees where there were some very noisy birds squacking at night and starting again at sunrise!

Other than that - nice hotel. at a good price. We had a room overlooking the gulf with a balcony and the pool looked nice, but was too cold when we were there.
