“Great place to stay!!!”
Reviewed 1 July 2012 via mobile

Great hotel!!! Love the quality & polite service. Piano bar is super---go Angelo!!! We have stayed before and will again.

We enjoy the pool and H2O Bar---but I wish they would play better music at night----Jimmy Buffet, Beach Boys, Zac Brown, Alan Jackson, etc. We on the beach, stop the boom boom stuff and play some beach music!!!

We stayed in mid-June and had a very time. I read a previous review that sums it up well. For Galveston, this is one of the nicest places to stay.

Positives:
- Nice property, well maintained, beautiful grounds
- Lobby has a very upscale feel
- Rooms are very spacious, much larger than most hotel rooms
- We noted how clean the rooms were. Housekeeping does an excellent job
- We had the breakfast bufftet several times, and food by the pool daily. All of the food was very good. We did not eat at their nice restaurant.
- Hotel staff were very accomodating and friendly. Including the engineer that had to come to the room to reset the alarm clock. He brought a box of chocolates. The pool attendants were excellent as well as the cafe' staff. Front desk staff were very nice, but a little more reserved. Not a complaint, just an observation.
- From what we observed, every room has a view of the ocean with a balcony.
- We had a higher floor, which was nice
- Beach is just across the street, so it's a nice location if the ocean is your thing
- We always felt safe and secure due to the intensive security at the property

Opportunity:
- The number one opportunity at this property is the swimming pool. Prepare yourself, this is not a lay by the pool and read kind of place. It's a party pool. The pool appears to be fairly small, but feels larger once you get in it. The pool and the surrounding area are very crowded. We never had trouble finding the spot that we wanted, but we did get to the pool by 10 a.m. every morning. Those coming later in the day had a little more trouble. There is no shade.....none....repeat, none. And the music is blaring all day long. If the volume wasn't bad enough, the song selections made it all the worse....unless you like hip hop music blasting your face off for 12 hours in the scorching Texas sun. Even the young people in our group grew weary of it. You will notice a lot of security around the pool. We saw them in action several times. It's a rowdy place due to the excessive drinking going on at the pool bar. If you are considering a familiy trip here, you will probably have a nice time at the pool, as we did. The kids loved the water slide. Just be forewarned about what to expect.
- Cabanas around the pool can be rented for $400 per day. We noted that they were not all taken each day. Seems they should drop the price just a bit to fill them up.

Advice:
- Don't arrive prior to check-in time and expect to get your room. It's likely that your room will not be ready even at check-in time. We got in our room at 4:30 vs. the 4: p.m. check-in time. It was a little inconvenient, but you just need to roll with the flow on things like this. No point in getting all stressed out on the first day of your vaction.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views and are more removed from pool music.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and leaving feedback about your vacation. During the weekends, our pool is quite popular, just as you reference. The safety of our guests is top priority, so you probably did see our Security team throughout our 32-acre Resort. We do apologize in the delay of check-in- as we run near 100% occupancy throughout the summer months, we do try our best to clean each room and have them available for the next guest in a very short window. If I can be of further assistance, please email me at ehimes@ldry.com.

We traveled here for Spring Break, tired of the day to day work week so we booked it for the Saturday of spring break. I thought it would be super packed but to my surprise it was full but there was still tons of space in the pools and lounge chairs not as crowded as I thought. The rooms were super clean and comfortable. The pool is amazing and heated so it adds that extra warmth on chilly nights :) My daughter loved it. The only drawback is that the slide water was super cold :( We had the time of our lives even though it was only for one night. Just sad we missed all the children's activities :( The spa is also spectacular and the staff is very professional. I love the packages they offer at the spa!!

Room Tip: Higher floors are nicer for the better view.

We look forward to having you return again soon to take advantage of our daily summer activities for all ages. And next time, you'll have to reserve more time at Spa San Luis!

We stayed at this hotel in June of 2012. The good and bad:

Good:
The grounds are kept up and the hotel common areas are kept clean.
Drinks at the pool bar are great and so is the food.
The pool bar.

Bad:
The rooms are decent size, the bathrooms are TINY!
The pool temp was warm...not cool. warm!
There is NO shade by the pool! NONE whatsoever except for the cabanas that you can rent for 350.00/day. The hotel really needs to look into a cooling system on the pool. It was SO hot and humid outside that we were excited to get in the pool and hang out...once we got in...we got out..went to the beach where the water was cooler.
All of the rooms are over the pool...which at 10pm was still playing the music. We were on the 11th floor and I could still hear it. We just turned the fan on the AC on high to drown it out.

Galveston is trapped in time...so even though there were certain things about this hotel that did not meet my standards as a RESORT....I would say for Galveston this is probably one of the top 3 nicest hotels.

Room Tip: Try and pick a room on a top floor. The music from the pool can be heard at night. We were on the 11...

Thank you for staying with us during your trip to Galveston. There is not much we can do about the temperature of our outdoor pool. The warm water is courtesy of the Galveston Island sunshine! Varying areas of our pool are shaded throughout the day, as the sun sets- and as you mention, we do rent cabanas for those seeking a secure, shaded, private area. All of our rooms do overlook the pool and beach, so we hope you enjoyed your views!

We came to the Island to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We've stayed here before as part of a conference. Our room was on the 15th floor so we had a great view and the room was roomy and tidy. The bed is probably due to be replaced as I felt like I was rolling to the middle each night. Loved being able to choose the pool or beach or both each day. We had great food experiences both on property and in surrounding places. Our dinner on our last night in the Steakhouse was awesome. Our waiter, Joseph, was on his game. When our food came out my steak was not prepared with the topping I had requested and Joseph was insistent that it be fixed. I was thankful because it was amazing. Also, the souffle was over the top. My disappointment was with the cleaning of our room. Our soap and shampoo/conditioner was not replenished and the trash was missed 2 of the 4 nights we stayed. I noted that it was several days before the hall carpet was vacuumed and the lobby table wiped. For the over-all prestige of the hotel I was a little disappointed with the maintainence. I felt like maybe they didn't have sufficient cleaning staff to keep up with how busy they have been during our stay. Over all our experience was great. The staff are friendly, helpful, and cheerful. I would definitely stay again. We had a good time! Thanks San Luis.

My parents and I decided to make an overnight trip to escape Houston. We are so very happy that we chose the San Luis, as the service level was excellent throughout our stay. I was upgraded to the PH level at check-in, which was very lovely. The room itself was updated, clean and modern, and complimentary refreshments were always on hand (breakfast and afternoon snacks, along with bottled water). This was great to have as my 2 year old daughter was with me and loves to snack. We enjoyed a nice swim at the pool, which was busy with children and families but well kept and very clean. My daughter absolutely loved the pool, the fountains in the front of the hotel, and the very talkative parrot. The proximity to the Rainforest Cafe was excellent (which is a great place to take young children for dinner) and the view of the Gulf was fabulous. Music could be heard very faintly from the pool area, but I believe the music was shut off at 10pm. In any case, it did not disturb my sleep or my daughters. An excellent stay!

Room Tip: Try to request a room as high up as possible - the music from the pool area may disturb some during...

It sounds like you thoroughly enjoyed our VIP, adults-only Club Ten floor! We're in the progress of upgrading some of the amenities that are included with a stay in Club Ten, so you'll have to return this fall and let us know what you think of our enhancements!
