The Hotel is ok. We were looking forward to getting in the Pool, the water was hot and kids everywhere. They had a swim up bar, not so good. waist deep and hot water. The rooms were ok, not great. The Steakhouse is amazing. The food is exceptional.

We stayed three nights in May 2014 for a charity golf event, even though another hotel was the official "host" hotel. Many of the participants have opted to stay at the San Luis for a number of reasons: the level of service being the primary. While the room and check in was more than acceptable, the pool side events regarding a day bed rental, pool manager confusion, including rude behavior on the part of this manager, and lack of knowledge of the "new" rental policy, resulted in a very uncomfortable and embarrassing situation for my family. I brought this to the attention of the front desk manager on duty at the time of my check out. Due to the crowd checking out at the time, I did not cause a big scene, and this manager assured me the "proper" department manager would be in touch with me via phone in the few days to follow. Lack of follow up by the manager/s addressing my concerns, was more than disappointing. There have been zero attempts to contact me. The follow up, promised phone call never happened. I received no response from an email dated July 1 where I detailed the events, nor did anyone contact me after I filled out the online post stay survey, where I gave a less than stellar rating. While the confusion around the pool was unacceptable and embarrassing, I am more upset with the San Luis for the lack of response from management.

Upon a Friday afternoon arrival I was surprised to find only 2 desk clerks responsible for the entire 4:00 hotel check-in. WOW - what a line and what a H-O-T lobby with all those people in line. Then one of only three elevators goes down.... made the best of it at this point deciding to entertain happy hour at the Grotto Bar. EXCELLENT atmosphere, spot-on service, FABULOUS dinner - we thought for sure that all was well for weekend. Saturday morning starting to feel relaxed after a MARVELOUS breakfast at Blake's we head to the pool!!!
OMG I have never experienced anything so bizarre as the events taking place at the H2o pool. Although the young ladies refrained from "thong" attire as stated in your rules, you allowed a DRUNK FEST to take place and no one was in charge all day and into the night. While I understand that the best profits can be from alcohol sales, shouldn't someone pay attention to what is going on and the amount of alcohol that individuals are consuming? This was not well managed at all and there were people of ALL ages at the pool, and this so called DJ was making sure that there was 20s something hip-hop ALL DAY well into the night. Your marketing/advertising refers to 'unique outdoor setting with contemporary seating areas for your relaxation, a fire pit to set the mood, high-definition televisions and upbeat sounds' Well, the music was so loud you couldn't attempt to sit in these areas if you had wanted to. The volume of the music went on ALL day and into the night so that we actually LEFT the hotel to have dinner somewhere else. At one point we were sitting at a red light on Seawall Blvd in the car with the windows rolled up and could hear the music from the bar...... How sad... Even a couple of the valet parking gentlemen said it sure was nice when the music was turned down and off at 8:00. When we spoke to the desk clerk about the issue her response was 'well it is summer time'. Even cheap motels have 'quite time' at night for guests!

Maybe we made a mistake by thinking that this was going to a nice relaxing weekend AT the hotel. Too bad we left disappointed from the experience - but lesson learned.

Thank you for your review and your feedback. We thank you for the commendation of our staff. It is our team's goal to provide exceptional service to every guest. I do apologize that you were in an older room instead of one of our renovated rooms. We have renovated about 75% of the resort including over half of our guestrooms and the majority of our public space. After the summer season, we are planning to renovate the remaining guestrooms and public space. please contact me directly the next time you plan to visit the San Luis Resort and I will ensure that you are booked in a renovated guestroom

On Saturday July 27th our class celebrated with a birthday bash. The staff did an excellent job serving us. The catering manager, Stacie, was very willing to help us in the areas of selecting the menu, the room set-up and the wait staff. The food was tasty and enjoyed by all in attendance. We were in East Mainsail Room.

Thank you so very much for serving us on this special occasion. It will be one that all of us will remember for years to come.

Hubs & I live in the Pasadena/ Clear Lake area- Galveston is a pretty common "go-to" for us... But when a Friend of a Friend offered up their Condo at the San Luis for a very reasonable price, we couldn't say no! Arrived late Friday night, ate at The Steakhouse (pretty much Perfect!). Saturday we spent at Pleasure Pier, w/ a BOGO coupon. Had issues printing our coupons in the business center, Front Desk refunded our money & allowed us to print from their computers. Very Nice of them. Free shuttle from the SL to PP, runs every 30 minutes. Again, Great Service... Ate at the Grotto Sat night (wonderful!), then took a taxi to the Strand to check it all out. Not impressed, came back & hung at H2O, the pool bar. Relaxed on Sunday, eating lunch at Blake's Bistro (Highly recommended), then hitting the pool/ H20 bar... Took a nap, then hit The Bar, adjacent to The Steakhouse, for a light dinner and drinks. Again, pretty awesome! Along the way I happened to buy the cutest little sundress... Hubs is a Tommy Bahama fan, so we usually wear TB gear when on vacation. The dress I found was very "Beachy", very TB, but another brand. I got it for 50% off, maybe more, which made us both very happy.

Overall, we had a great time. Although the Condos are different from the hotel rooms, we never felt slighted in the least. We requested ice & Toilet Paper, and they were both brought in a very timely manner. Valet Parking was a breeze. And calling a cab was no big deal at all... We were SO PLEASED w/ our stay! We are already hounding the Condo's Owner for another chance to Relax in said Condo... There's a nice bath, a kitchenette, a dining table, a daybed, a fold-out couch, & an awesome 8th floor balcony... SO Worth the Money, and a 30 minute drive home... Yeah... Who Wouldn't Love This?!? Check them out!

Staff, restaurants & pool were superb!! VERY DISAPPOINTED in the room. Rate charged was WAY overpriced for the condition of the room. Room was VERY OLD. Bathroom was dirty with dingy, worn towels. No ventilation in bathroom so ceiling dripped on us. Mattress was old and saggy. We kept rolling to the middle all night. Cockroaches crawling on the wall. Paid for a King Deluxe room w/full corner views. View from the side of the room was a building right next to the window. Don't mind paying a lot for a room if it is nice. That's why we chose this resort. Thought with that high of a priced room it would be amazing. Would be worth the stay if the rate of the room fit the type of room you were staying in. I would recommend this resort if you request to stay away from the old rooms and ask for a newly remodeled room. Otherwise don't waste your money staying. Just visit the resort and enjoy the amenities.

Room Tip: Ask for a remodeled room. If you get a corner suite, make sure it's not the ones right next to...

Thank you for your review. We apologize for the condition of your guestroom, this is not our standard. We are in the process of renovating the hotel. About 75% of the hotel was renovated prior to the summer season which included 1/2 of the rooms and the public areas. We will be continuing our renovation in the fall/winter which will include the remaining guestrooms and public space. Please contact me directly when making your next reservation and I will ensure that you are booked in a renovated guestroom.
