Historic type hotel one block behind "The Strand," so in walking distance of many restaurants and bars and shopping. Both bars in the hotel have good service. Rooms are a little small but have terrific ceiling height and are decorated nicely.Valet parking is cheap compared to downtown Houston and is a convenient option when The Strand is busy.

We appreciate the kind review on your stay at The Tremont House. As you mentioned, The Tremont is located in the heart of The Strand District and it is also just two blocks from the Postoffice Arts and Entertainment District. We hope that you will stay with us again soon.

We stayed at the Tremont House in 2012 for Dickens on the Strand and thought it was a treasure, but a few bumps with the stay. We went back for DooS 2013.

If attending DooS, the Tremont has a station set up with valets, could not have been smoother or more efficient. Excellent set up.

Housekeeping, improved. Room was immaculate. Even though we were going in/out of our room constantly on Saturday and Sunday, housekeeping got in and cleaned the room. I had left a tip on the nightstand, the money was still there. I had to write a note that the money was a tip please take it. Housekeeping... Excellent.

Last year, we were very unimpressed with the cafe. The manager responded to my tripadvisor review there were changes coming, to try the restaurant again. We ventured down there for breakfast, OMG cinnamon roll to DIE for Came back for lunch and ate of the best meals of my life, the flat bread pizza with truffle oil was so good I came back and had it for dinner. My husband declared the chicken salad sandwich was excellent. The staff came by and checked our table, made sure everything was ok. Cafe... Excellent.

The Tremont really excelled this year in entertainment. There was a great group of teens singing in the lobby on Friday night, and those kids put on a GREAT show. Unusual Christmas songs well sung.
However, the most fantastic entertainment occurred on Saturday. We went to see Alfred Hyslop recite the Christmas Carol. He was so amazing we returned on Sunday to hear him again. He puts on a great show, and we highly recommend attending one of his performances.
Entertainment... Execellent.

We spoke to several of the staff there. Its quite heartwarming to hear the wonderful and kind words they had for owners of the hotel. Apparently there are employers still out there who care about their employees.

The Tremont House is not the cheapest hotel in Galveston, but given the convenience of location, comfort, and quality of service, my husband and I will not be staying any where else. More expensive, but still excellent value.

The only caution: There is a center atrium which runs almost to the top of the building. If getting rooms next to the atrium, the sounds from downstairs can carry upward. We could hear some sounds from the bar, but had the TV on and did not notice. The sounds were gone by our bedtime of 11ish, but if this is an issue, you may want to book a room on the outside walls.

Room Tip: Interior rooms get noise from the bar/atrium below. If this is an issue, request a room on the outsi...

We came down a day early before boarding a Caribbean cruise in case there were problems with the flights and to have a day to explore Galveston. The Tremont is an elegant older hotel with spacious rooms and the highest ceilings I've ever seen in a hotel for quite an airy feel. Ask for a room with a window facing the courtyard or outside as our view of the fire escape was about the only disappointing thing about the hotel. The service is as advertised very attentive and while the hotel is not large or grand, it felt warm and welcoming. As for value, I rate this as only average because we knew we were booking an expensive room when we choose this hotel and were surprised with the view of the unattended to inside of the hotel.
Also, if you want to visit the historic Strand district (the thing to do when in Galveston according to locals), all you do is turn left when you walk out the front door and turn left on the 1st block and you're in the heart of the Strand which featured a nicely decorated square for Christmas with Christmas music playing late into the night. Many nice older stores including a giant ice cream / bakery / chocolate shoppe that easily accommodated 100 plus people that were still sampling their fare very late at night.
The Treemont is in my opinion the 2nd best choice in Galveston because it's sister property the Hotel Galvez would be the only better choice. I will post my thoughts about the Galvez on that topic.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a room with a view outside to the streets or the inner courtyard as we got a view...

Thank you for the glowing review of The Tremont House and the endorsement for our sister hotel - Hotel Galvez & Spa. We are pleased that you enjoyed the adjacent Strand District and your visit to LaKing's Confectionary. Make sure you make the rounds to Postoffice Street on your next visit. We look forward to your return.

We try and stay at the Tremont House at least once a year in the winter. We always have a great experience. The employees are very helpful and courteous and you cannot beat the location. The rooms are huge with very high ceilings and nice huge comfy beds (if you get a small room, try and ask for one of the larger ones or request at the time of reservation). The rooftop bar is a nice place to hang out but make sure you have a warm coat--with the gulf breeze it's hard for the heaters to keep up. The views are wonderful. The only issue we had this time which was taken care of within 2 hours was a barking dog on our floor. I didn't even realize they allowed pets, we usually avoid pet friendly hotels. Not that I don't like pets, I have always had pets and have 2 of my own at this time but I choose to leave them at home where they are safest. Apparently other guests had already been calling and complaining because the manager was there trying to get the dog owners to open the door but they were not in. He told me they do allow pets just not noisy pets. They had left the dog alone. After he made several trips back to the room to see if they had returned, the manager removed the dog in a kennel so problem solved. The hotel has an atmosphere about it that makes you feel like you really went somewhere special and we are looking forward to our next stay.

Room Tip: 2nd or 3rd floor overlooking Mechanic Street.

What a beautiful hotel! The attentiveness to detail in the rooms and the lobby space was incredible. Beautifully appointed rooms and baths. Conveniently located to the Strand and shopping. Can't wait for a return visit.

We had been wanting to stay at the Tremont for a long time and finally took the plunge during the Christmas holidays. Our room was big and beautiful....high ceilings and tastefully decorated.
One complaint: there was lots of noise coming up from the cafe/bar atrium at 11:30 p.m., and there were only a few people down there (You can see down from your window). We called the desk and got a terse "Okay, this is our second call about that...we'll take care of it." But they didn't, and the noise persisted for another 30 minutes. My thought: How bad is it when the cafe and bar actually get busy in summer? That'll be a concern for future booking. You'd think a place this classy would have better sound-proofing with the atrium set-up for half of the rooms.
Otherwise, great location, nice place.
Bar is nice but get ready for stiff prices.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that's not on the atrium side, to avoid noise.

Thank you for the insight on your stay at The Tremont House. As you mentioned, some of our rooms face inside into the atrium so guests can hear the music in the Toujouse Bar which is appealing to some. We do offer live music in the Toujouse Bar so you offered a good tip as far of volume. Soon, we'll be offering live jazz on Friday and Saturday nights so if you love jazz you may want an interior facing room, if not, you'll love the high windows in the exterior facing rooms too.
