Owner description: Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is where Africa comes to Texas. Our 1,800-acre facility offers a 7.2-mile scenic drive where you can interact with approximately 1,100 rare and endangered animals roaming free in their herds. Stay in your car, reserve your spot on a guided tour, or even spend a night at our Foothills Safari Camp or The Lodge to see 50-plus species of wild animals including cheetahs, wolves, giraffes, rhinos and more. The delicious food at The Overlook Cafe is paired with an incredible view overlooking the park and our Nature Store offers an array of souvenirs to take home to family and friends. While Fossil Rim is sure to provide a unique experience and exciting adventure, we are dedicated to the conservation of species on the brink of extinction. Fossil Rim conducts scientific research, trains professionals, responsibly manages our natural resources and is committed to public education.

We took our two daughters (6 years and 19 months) to Fossil Rim over the weekend. It was such a treat for everyone! The place is enormous--plan on spending a few hours here. It took us 4 hours. Keep in mind, about halfway up, there's a petting zoo, gift shop, short hiking trail and restrooms. We spent quite a while there so that attributed to our 4 hour drive. My only complaint was the prices we paid and the prices posted on line were different. Being able to feed giraffes (and dozens of other animals) as they peek into your car made the price difference worth it!

Overall, this was a great visit. We'll be back!

Tip: Eat at "The Green Pickle" while you're in Glen Rose!

We always try to visit when we are in the Glen Rose area. Weekdays $17.95 each. You can drive thru numerous times, plus if you make it back before 10am next day, you can come in free. 9 mile drive took us almost 4 hours on the first drive. There are so many animals to see, and feed. I think the best time to go is when it opens, as the animals are all up and checking out the cars for treats. (Feed is $8 a bag, limited to 2 bags a car) Beautiful scenery. Favorites were the giraffes. They came in thru our sunroof for a treat. Amazing!

We have visited Fossil Rim many times, and I honestly can't recommend it highly enough! The facility itself is stunningly beautiful - rolling hills, huge pastures, you almost feel you are in Africa. The accommodations at The Lodge are very comfortable and have amazing views. We sit on our porch, watching herds of various types of exotic hoofstock meander by, while we sip our drinks and relax. Magical! Breakfast is provided in Safari Camp (another place to stay, in tents with A/C, showers and bathrooms, if you don't want to stay in the Lodge). We always do the Adventure Tour the next morning. It is SO worth it! You spend the entire day with a tour guide (Trich and Gerry are both awesome), seeing areas that are off limits to the public. You learn SO much about their breeding efforts for endangered species, and get to go all through the Intensive Management Areas. Seeing the black rhinos is incredible, and I adore the maned wolves, Mexican gray wolves, red wolves and cheetahs - all species who are not on the regular drive-through! Of course you still get to see all the animals in the main part of the park as well. Lunch is provided, and you get to meet with a keeper or two, to learn more about what they do. We thought we'd do this little adventure once, but loved it so much, we keep going back and intend to continue doing so!
