We have stayed twice a Fossil Ridge, once in the tents and once in the lodge. Both were very nice, but I preferred the tent.
My room in the lodge was clean. The tub was a sunken, tiled jacuzzi, big enough to float in - very fun! The staff was friendly and accomodating, eager to answer all questions and fill all requests.
The tent, in which we stayed last year, was wonderful. They have great showers, heating and air (should you want it) and comfortable beds. Young deer wander the property. We lay awake for a while, listening to the wind and, in the near distance, the occasional howl of the wolves on the property. I don't know when we've had a more refreshing night.
The chef on the property, Brandy, is not only an excellent cook, if you have special dietary needs and call ahead, she will work with you. Both times we stayed we had a good dinner.
The morning "behind the scenes" tour is not to be missed. The chance to see these beautiful and endangered animals up close is awe-inspiring.
Fossil Ridge is not like staying in a Ritz. It's run by a non-profit and the main focus is the animals. It is clean, friendly and personally rejuvenating. What more could you want?
