“Fantastic, Unique, and Great Place to Stay for the Right Person”
Reviewed 17 May 2010

This is a terrific place to stay, if you do not want to be hounded by staff and you are not expecting a list of amenities such as room service, pool, turn-down service, or a fitness center. What you get is similar to if you were at your own home with 7 bed/bathrooms and a large sitting area. Once you get your key and the code for the front door, you are completely on your own--which we loved! There is a stocked fridge with sodas and water for sale on the honor system and free blue bell ice cream cups in the freezer. There is also a deep freeze stocked with ice. The rooms are uniquely decorated and full of character, beds are comfortable, the bathrooms are terrific--most with tubs and a separate standing shower. The place is very clean. The sitting/lounge area upstairs is warm, comfortable, and inviting. We rented all 7 rooms to house a group in town for a doctoral graduation party--this place was perfect! We felt like we owned the place. The location is on the courthouse square and surrounded by shops, eateries, and places to browse. The sitting area was a great place to eat, drink, and be merry while sharing stories, playing cards or games, and just relaxing. We anxiously awaited a ghost to visit, but no such luck for para-normal activity this weekend. However, the place certainly lends itself to such charm. The restaurant downstairs has closed, sadly, but is currently being renovated into a bookstore. Breakfast coupons were given for pancakes at the restaurant across the square. The owner, Melinda, was courteous and accommodating at check in and told us just to leave the keys at the desk when we were ready to check out. The housekeeper was non-intrusive and worked her way around the rooms while some were still getting dressed or napping. This is the perfect place for the right person or group. I highly recommend it.

My husband and I stayed at the Nutt House Hotel for a weekend getaway for our anniversary. The accommodations were nice and we loved the historic, vintage feel of the building. We had no complaints about our room, except maybe the fact that it can be quite noisy. You can hear the diners at the restaurant below and people outside on the streets.
Our biggest complaint however was the incorrect information we were provided upon making reservations and from the management number we were given. When making reservations, we were told that a breakfast voucher was included in the price of the room. When we arrived, no staff were there but we were given a code in advance to enter the building. An envelope was waiting with our keys, however no vouchers were included. We called the management number and were told instead that breakfast would be provided in the parlor area the next morning at 8:30am-9am. That next morning we got up at that time, but found nothing. It was approximately about an hour later that we found a plate with a few scones sitting in the waiting room. We assumed this is what they considered breakfast. The following morning we waited until 9:30am to check for breakfast, but again found nothing. In fact, there was never any food placed out for the residents that morning. So to sum it up, the managers of this property are clearly lying on their website by stating they offer breakfast and are also confident in lying over the phone when asked as well. If we had known they weren't going to offer breakfast in advance, that would have impacted our decision to stay there. Also the customer service is severely lacking, as we saw not one staff member in the three days we were there. I would recommend staying at another B&B in Grandbury, b/c it was quite a charming town.

The General Hiram #5 room has no outside view. The shutters open to a view of the sitting area, It's an inside room. It's beautifully decorated in period style. The bathroom is very room with a nice deep bathtub and very nice linens.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Nutt House Hotel (nice name, eh?) in Granbury for 2 nights during the weekend. The accomodations were top notch as far as the bedding, bathroom, decor, and location are concerned. The hotel has a very rustic, antique feel to it, so it fits in well with the rest of Granbury's town square. The staff are very attentive and friendly. The manager was very helpful when I asked her about other places to see. Those were the good things. Now for the not so good. The hot water system in this hotel is really weird. They have a notice in the room telling you that the hot water system is "brand new" and "European styled" and that you have to run the water for a while to get it hot. Well, that's true, but after about 5 minutes of hot, the water goes ice cold. You have to keep running the bath water while the shower is going to get the hot to come back and stay, for 5 minute intervals. The notice in the room even suggests as much! We wanted to notify the owner about the water issue, but there were no staff on site when we left on Sunday. You just leave your key at the front desk. We basically could have stayed all day apparently instead of checking out at 11 am like honest folks. I think there is a phone number you can call to reach someone, but that's not the same as having someone there. The only other issue we had was that the room had a very strong and unpleasant fragrance, probably from the couple of Glade plug-ins that were plugged in. But that's just personal preference. It probably would have smelled like stale old books otherwise, and that would have been worse. If the hotel gets the water fixed, it would be a fantastic place. But with that issue, it's just above average.

My Husband and I stayed at this wonderful old hotel in August of 2004. We had easy access to the building after hours with a code lock. Our room was beautiful, King bed, large soaking tub with a separate shower. The bed linens were high quality, extra bath towels and robes. We felt pampered. We were right on the square with easy access to shopping and restaurants. The restaurant in the same building is operated by a different company and is not accessible form the hotel lobby. We have stayed in a few Bed and Breakfasts and consider this old hotel the best yet. Breakfast is not included, but there are places on the square to eat at.
