“A Little of Everything”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

My husband recommended this unique store/restaurant as a favorite destination of his along Hwy 281, and already we have stopped there a few times. I would classify this more of an attraction than a restaurant, however, because it is a lot more than a place to eat. It is a combination general store, antique shop, candy factory and deli-restaurant, with a vintage vibe to it. Be sure to try to the Bavarian Ham sandwich (it is excellent) and give yourself some time to walk around and enjoy what this unique place have to offer. If you come at the right time, you might catch them when they are busy making some of their candy. More than likely you'll find something to take home for yourself or as a gift. Neat place that is a great stop along an otherwise lonely stretch of road.

“Great sandwich!”
Reviewed 24 May 2014 via mobile

Visiting family in Gatesville so drove to Hamilton to pass the time. Fun store to browse! Found lots of old school candy - even those cigarette gum sticks from my childhood. Had to buy them so my daughter would believe that gum was sold back in the day to mimic smoking cigarettes. Crazy now but not then!! Had Bavarian sandwich and German potato salad - EXCELLENT! My mom enjoyed the Reuben sandwich. Bought yummy salt water taffy for the road. You can hand pick the exact flavors you want. Super nice people working here. Nice clean restrooms. Would return.

“The Bavarian Sandwich is Delicious”
Reviewed 19 January 2014 via mobile

While driving down to a weekend in Fredericksburg we stopped at Dutchmans Hidden Valley and split the Bavarian Sandwich, which is ham, kraut and mayo-sauce on toasted homemade bread.
Dutchmans is a deli, candy shop, ice cream parlor and gift shop combination, compare to a Cracker Barrel on home style scale.
The half sandwich with drink and chips was a perfect combination and size while driving down 281.

“best sandwiches in hamilton county!”
Reviewed 7 January 2014

i love The Dutchman! They make really good sandwiches using fresh bread and a nice selection of deli meats. Their homemade cookies and cinnamon rolls are yummy. And don't forget to sample the homemade apple kuchen! They also have a great selection of candies! It's a "must stop" kind of place when you're travelling Hwy 281!

“Chocolate and Taffy”
Reviewed 17 November 2013

We usually stop here on our way to or from San Antonio. Besides having a deli, they have a candy shop selling hand-dipped chocolates and a gift shop. On this visit, I bought some chocolate-covered lemon crèmes, dark chocolate haystacks, and jalapeño milk chocolate. The filling in the lemon crèmes has an intense lemon flavor and the chocolate coating is thicker than you would find in boxed chocolates. The jalapeño chocolate was not the best of its kind that I've had. I liked the level of spiciness, but found the flavor of the milk chocolate itself to be a little thin. The dark chocolate in the haystacks was better. They also have an entire wall covered with baskets containing all kinds of taffy.
