Description: Leon "Pappy" Selph just may have been the best fiddle player that ever lived. He was the inventor of Texas swing and is best known for having written "The Orange Blossom Special." Back when the Original Goode Company BBQ opened on Kirby Drive, he'd play the first Friday of every month for a flat rate of $65 and a bottle of Jack Daniels. He'd always take the whiskey upfront. And at the end of the evening when Jim handed him the money, the fiddle player would quietly fold it up and stick it in Jim's shirt pocket. He'd tell him, "Jim, things will get better. You just stick with it." It was a kind gesture and good advice. This all left quite an impression on Jim's son, Levi. So it was no surprise, when years later, Levi decided Houston needed a dedicated home for Texas music and created the Armadillo Palace right across the street from the original barbeque place that Pappy played all those years ago.Goode's Armadillo Palace hosts live Texas music several days a week. It serves a full menu of Texas comfort food and is available for parties of just about every size. Levi is no less demanding than his father is, and no place captures the spirit of Texas music the way the Armadillo Palace does.

“Nice decoration but that's it...”
Reviewed 29 October 2013 via mobile

Went there with business colleagues to have some quality time after work. The decoration is certainly the key asset of the place, typically Texan, and there is a nice atmosphere.
The food is really not at the level I was expecting: could not finish my plate of diverse meats, the taste of which was very dodgy.
I suppose this a place to have drinks only.

“Big & Fun Texas Atmosphere, Great BBQ”
Reviewed 27 June 2013

We attended a party at the Armadillo Palace, and when we found out that the food was from Good Company, we knew it would be an excellent meal. Texans know there BBQ, and this is great BBQ, not an ounce of fat on the brisket, tasty BBQ chicken, excellent sides, authentic pecan pie with big fat pecans. Great drinks, tangy margaritas, fun music, and loads of Western memorabilia all over, from the pistol door knobs to the saddle bar stools. You could spend hours in there and not take in every detail there. A fun, fun place to have a party!

“Relaxing place for live music”

Good selection of food and taste great. Lots of interesting photos and memorabilia on walls. If you are coming to listen to music, it is also a great place for that.

“A Must-See for Texas Visitors”
Reviewed 29 April 2013

This place is the classic Texas stereotype, with country music, game heads on the walls, and saddles for the bar stools. Great food, and right next door to Goode Co BBQ if you want to grab a bite to eat over there and then walk over here for your beers. It promises to be great people watching and a fun time for all!

Great atmosphere! Super good food and great decor. Fun atmosphere and the live music is an added bonus! Lots to look at while waiting for your food. Can't go wrong with the sandwiches and great onion rings!
