“wonderful place, wonderful stay”
Reviewed 30 March 2014

We usually prefer hotels to B&Bs, but none of the Houston hotels near where we needed to be sounded hopeful so we expanded our search to B&Bs. We're very glad to have found LaMaison!

We stayed four nights here on a recent visit to Houston.

Our room, 201, was large, well equipped, neat and clean, everything we had hoped for from the positive reviews.

We liked the location which is convenient to the museum district and central to other far flung things we wanted to do.

No need for me to add more compliments about the hosts, other reviews have said it all. All employees were very pleasant and helpful.

Breakfast was interesting and different every day. Well prepared and tasty. I don't remember the order of days, but while we were there breakfast was:

Omelet with turkey sausage, peppers, onions [?], and cheese

Scrambled eggs and turkey sausage

Sweet potato waffle and bacon

Bacon cup with a filling of hash browns, eggs, and cheese

Juice and coffee were also offered.

When we checked in Sharon asked us about food allergies or other special dietary needs.

Our only complaint has nothing to do with LaMaison. We prefer walkable food and found the neighborhood choices too limited. The two we tried were good, not great and a bit too expensive. The best supper we had in Houston was when we drove to the closest Waffle House and had breakfast for supper.

Yes, we would happily stay at LaMaison again.

My husband and I recently stayed here whilst visiting our soon to be married son in Houston. The location is great, the lodgings super comfy and beautifully presented, but the thing that makes this B&B is the hosts, Sharon and Genora !- they couldn't have been more helpful, nothing was too much trouble , and breakfasts were wonderful...I have coeliac disease and Sharon made Gluten free waffles , muffins etc...amazing They also made me feel OK driving around the town( on the other side of the road!).Will return next visit!

Fantastic and warm environment with gracious hosts who know how to make you feel welcome! The breakfast was incredible! Location is top notch too. Ask the lovely ladies for restaurant recommendations too - we went to Gloria's - DELICIOUS and Simply Pho - yummy pho in Texas - who knew? We loved our time there and hope to return!

My husband and I just returned from our second stay at La Maison and there is no doubt that there will be a third when we visit Houston again. The owners are exceptional innkeepers and have put together a quality establishment that is comfortable and welcoming. Everything is exceptionally clean and organized. The breakfasts are excellent. The urban high tea—aka Happy Hour--is one of our favorite aspects. It is a great way to talk to the owners and meet other guests who are always interesting. Also, La Maison is so conveniently located between downtown and the museum district. For us, it is the only place to stay in Houston.

This is a top notch B&B in the midtown area of Houston. The rooms are very well appointed with comfortable beds, antique replicas that are functional, plush towels and nice amenities. Our room opened to a veranda with a view of the Houston skyline.

There is a small kitchenette accessible to guests with gourmet teas and individual coffees. The breakfast area is well stocked with cookies, fruit and snacks available 24/7.

Located just blocks from I*59, it was very convenient for getting back and forth to the conference at Lakewood Church.

The inn keepers, Sharon and Gennora couldn't be any friendlier or more helpful. They make their guest feel like family.

.

Room Tip: A few rooms do not have access to the veranda. Not a big deal if you do not enjoy sitting outside.

Close to downtown and easy access to Museum District makes this an ideal location for visitors. The gracious hosts start your day with a tasty and appealing breakfast, and after a busy day they welcome you back with a late afternoon tea or glass of wine. Rooms were very tidy and comfortable. La Maison is a purpose-built B&B establishment and has well-designed layout.

And we walked and used Metro rail and taxis for our travel needs - it can be done! Metro station at McGowen is about 5-6 blocks walking distance and one-way fare is $1.25 with a 120 minute transfer time (i.e. you can use your ticket for the return or continuing trip within that timeframe). Taxi fare is flat rate from IAH and was around $55 - $60 (excl tip), from downtown we had a flat rate of $6 (excl tip), and then our long trip via taxi to the cruise terminal at Bayport was about $75 (excl tip). We didn't feel uncomfortable walking in the area in the evening, just used normal safe practices such as avoiding poorly lit laneways or streets.

On-site outdoor parking is available for guests.

Many good restaurants close to La Maison. Walgreens close by for your personal needs, and you have got to check out Spec's for wine, produce, etc.

Definitely a great location and super hosts! And we will be heading back on any future return trip to Houston.

I've stayed at La Maison twice in the past year on business trips and can't imagine staying anywhere else in the future. Great rooms, tasty breakfast, wonderful hosts and a great location. There are bars and restaurants within walking distance (though no one seems to walk anywhere in Houston!) and you are very close to the Arts District, Montrose neighborhood, Medical Center and downtown.
