“Beautiful old movie theater”
Reviewed 7 August 2013

This old movie theater reminded me of a less grand Radio City Music Hall... a Deco movie palace they don't make them like this any more, which is a real shame. No stadium seating (who cares) but an up to date sound system, upstairs bar, cool Art Deco restrooms and easy parking. Great place to see a film.

“Something different”
Reviewed 6 June 2013

If you are tired of the cookie cutter movies that are out in the theaters everywhere then try the River Oaks theater. We have watched some really great independent and/or foreign films here.

“blast from the past”
Reviewed 25 January 2013

Love this theater; relic from before I was born; my mom and her friends used to go there. It definitely gives Houston some character apart from its stereotypical business, corporate, oil facade. They still do midnight movies here; lots of Rocky Horror Picture Show, and they also show smaller Indie Films that don't always make it to the bigger theaters.

“Best Movie Viewing Memories”
Reviewed 11 January 2013

This theater provides a great movie going experience. I remember the movies I've seen here so well, partly because they are usually really great movies, and also because it is such a pleasant movie going experience. It is within walking distance of several unique dining places, making it easy to combine "dinner and a movie" with a nice walk, pleasant conversation, fresh air, and (if you are early enough) shopping! The theater is art deco style, with a large viewing room downstairs and two smaller ones upstairs. The movie selection is very sophisticated for the most part, combined with Saturday midnight viewings of cult classics like the Rocky Horror Picture Show. There is a bar on the second floor, which makes me fill like a grownup. I wish there were more like her, she is a gem. She also is a great supporter of the local film making community.

“quiet evening out”
Reviewed 28 November 2012

this is a very nice quaint place, showing independent films, there is a bar upstairs, friendly staff, priced right, it is a step back in time, they need to put in a ticket kiosk or man the box office, i find it maddening to stand behind someone buying a ticket and then ordering their popcorn and drinks.other than that i do find this place relaxing and absent of annoying children and other undesirables, i have always found parking, but i always go during week days. give this place a try well worth your visit. and is in a nice part of town.
