Didn't pick this one out - ended up here with a group of friends, but it turned out to be quite good. Wife had stuffed shrimp which were delicious! I had the smoke salmon pasta which was fresh and light. Fairly accommodating of our group (9 of us) - added 20% gratuity which seemed a bit high in the end when one couple in our party ordered a dessert that never arrived. Oops!

Dinner for seven served timely, All food had good flavor and the plates were well arranged. Only negative, portions were kind of small for the price. When a 12 yr old says, "I could have eaten a little more," tells you something about the portions.

Massa's has been a Houston staple for years and it definitely serves reliable seafood. But no oyster or scallop dishes and, generally, the dishes are not particularly innovative. But you know what you are getting and the location is very good in downtown Houston.

I was looking for a restaurant in the vicinity of the Toyota Center to take some clients out to dinner. They were going to see The Eagles in concert, so we wanted to dine somewhere nearby. Many of the restaurants I am familiar with were already booked, so I decided to give Massa's a try. I called early in the day and left a message on their machine requesting a 5:45 reservation. Within an hour the owner returned my call and confirmed the reservation.
When we arrived our table was ready on time and we were seated quickly. This was no small feat due to the crowd of walk up customers trying to get a table. The staff seemed to handle the rush well.
The menu had a wide variety of seafood, pasta and even steaks. For an appetizer we tried the crab cakes which were excellent and calamari which was very good.
For the main entree we all had a seafood dish and everyone was pleased. I ordered the Simply Grilled Red Snapper and it was great. Just a simple piece of fish without a bunch of sauce, or other adders that take away from the flavor of the fish.
Despite the fact the restaurant was packed the service was excellent. Drinks were delivered in a timely manner and the food was hot when it arrived.
All in all this is a great restaurant. The owner spoke with us before we left and told us they are only open weekends if there is an event in the area. It's a shame more people in Houston don't head downtown on the weekends. This is a restaurant we will definitely try again.

My husband and I were wondering around downtown looking for a place to eat after arriving late in the afternoon. Since we had just arrived we weren't sure where to go. We saw this place on our walk so I looked it up on tripadvisor, saw it had pretty good reviews so we decided to eat here. The menu had a lot of shellfish which I'm allergic to so my choices were limited. I had the Mahi Mahi and it was very good and not over cooked at all. The green beans were tasty and the mashed potatoes were excellent.
Beware of the house salad if you're allergic to shellfish, it has shrimp on it. I noticed it and the waiter had no problem getting me a fresh one without the shrimp
The waiters were knowledgeable about the menu and attentive without being obnoxious. They were very sensitive to the shellfish issue after I made them aware of it, which I should have done in the first place.
