Off the beaten path, but worth finding. This is real Tex-Mex, run by a fine family and warm staff. It is consistently good, and does not profess to do trendy or new things - they do what they do and they do it well. We go back again and again and are never disappointed.

Remember thirty years ago when Mexican food amounted to a menu full of options that basically were beef and cheese coated with chopped iceberg and tiny cuts of tomato? And no matter how many options there are on the menu, each one is just some mix of that combination with different amounts of tortilla and cooking method? If you loved it then, you will love it here.

The menu is vast (80 items), but only contains a few chicken options, very few seafood selections , and none of the vegetable-influenced options like stuffed poblanos or spinach enchiladas. If only they would cut the number of choices but make them more distinct you would feel like you really had dining options.

The location is great, right in an area that is resurgent with a lot of downtown/medical people moving in - and the dining options are starting to expand - Reggae Hut nearby is very good, Alfreda's draws a crowd, Lucille's is overpriced but tasty, Bodega has very good and cheap Mexican food. There is a place for Spanish Village in the mix, but they badly need to update to be part of it.

The service is OK, the interior is very dated Mexican motif, and the food is OK. Not bad, just uninspired.

Don't let the outside of the building deceive you. Staff was friendly. The #41 and #72 were great and the food was very authentic.

If you like spicy appetizers recommend the stuffed jalapenos, even though its only mozzarella. The selection is terrific and the service is fantastic!
