A neighbors burial brought me to this quiet, peaceful cemetery off Washington St. just north of downtown Houston. It is totally private and beautifully secluded place of rest. Each turn in the road of the cemetery brings more beautiful scenes. You can park your car and walk or drive the small winding street inside this cemetery. A map can be obtained to help you locate some of the more famous residents. The grounds are rolling, not flat with great landscaping. Most grave stones are more interesting than usual cemeteries have. Some are very carved and most are very old. One can sit and pause as you walk along. Bring a small bite to eat or beverage to drink
as you make your way in Glenwood. Most remarkable place to visit.

We recently had the experience of burying a relative at Glenwood and would give them very high marks. The property is beautiful, peaceful and well kept, and the management is completely gracious. On very short notice and despite the weather (brutally hot), the interim director, Walter, spent a great deal of time with us helping us pick out a plot. In addition, at the actual burial the workers treated our loved one's remains with the utmost respect and care.

Full information here: I enjoy Glenwood so much that I joined a group that gives tours. In flat, really flat Houston it's good to find a place that offers topographic relief. Added to the undulating grounds is really fine landscaping dating from 140 years ago. Bicycle riders and picnickers are welcomed by such famous Houstonians as Anson Jones, Howard Hughes and Glenn McCarthy. Plan on multiple visits - you can't see everything the first time.

I know it sounds morbid but it is actually very beautiful and I suggest that you take a guided tour. Howard Hughes is buried here as well as many well known Houstonians dated back to the civil war.
