Catalina Coffee provides the best coffee in Houston, mainly due to the obsession off the owner to ensure great free trade beans are used and roasted to his satisfaction. While I buy my whole bean coffee there (I strongly recommend the decaf since it tastes like regular coffee), I also stop by for a coffee periodically; they prepare the coffee is many ways: drop, vacuum, Hario V60, and Chemex in addition to their incredible espresso machine. It is on the espresso machine the baristas shine, particularly with their latté/cappuccino art - each one is unique to behold and a shame to destroy by drinking, but there is no option when the art is on top of one of the best coffees in Houston.

The place is very simple and there are always some healthy food choices too. While they provide WiFi, there are no publicly accessibly power outlets (brilliant in my opinion).

This is definitely a stop for anyone who loves coffee!!

Best bet for outstanding coffee near downtown Houston, as downtown itself lacks a single great indie coffee shop. Nearly perfect coffees, espressos, etc. Loved by locals. Hip vibe, good music.

Seating is crowded and there are community tables. Great if you want to eavesdrop. But not advisable at all for private conversations or business meetings. Outside seating exists but is not pleasant, just ugly sidewalk.

Hubby and I were looking for a place to hang out with some coffe for awhile. He had computer work to do and I wanted to finish a book. Read some other reviews and chose Catalina. Warehouse feel with polished concrete floors, wooden long tables as well as bistro tables. Decided to order something basic for comparison. I got a decaf vanilla latte, And hubby ordered an iced regular vanilla latte. This is GOOD coffee. I always have to order decaf and sometimes there is a bitter aftertaste or a bland, "watered down" feel. Not so here. Super bold with a rich almost carmel tasting finish. I also love that it was served in a nice heavy coffee cup with saucer. Hubby enjoyed his iced latte and couldn't believe how much he got for $3.50. We ordered a chocolate chip pecan cookie, and it had a homemade taste rather than the super sugary grocery cookies at some other coffee shops. All in all a great score and we'll be back soon.

If you're looking for a real premium coffee cup (Expresso, Cortado, Macchiatto, etc) go to Catalina's. Always crowded but their Baristas deserve the wait.

I'm actually here now for the first time and this definitely won't be my last. Great casual shop. Reminds me of Deidrich's that used to be on Westheimer (but not as nice and without the live band). They play music very low which isn't distracting so you can actually read or study and hear yourself think. Perfect chai and espresso drinks w/equally strong wifi! Not to mention the Danishes and cookies are great!
