“Great Food But It's Priced As Such”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 May 2013

Bottom Line-Great margaritas and really good fresh mexican food but you don't get it at a discount so keep that in mind. Cool vibe and decor and the staff really fawn all over you-can't go wrong with the service. Drink menu is huge and # of different types of margaritas is really impressive, especially when u want to go "skinny". Home made salsa very good (not your traditional chunky mass-manufactured stuff) but i'd say the guacamole was not to my taste (not the guac as an order-the one that comes with nacho chip nibblers). Fish tacos are excellent and huge-bring an appetite. Staff very happy to accomodate changes within the set plate. All in, great food, vibe and experience. Pricing is at the higher end and although the setting justifies it, if something more casual is ok for you, there are better value places with similar quality. Would come back here.

“Great Service, Very Spendy for Mexican Food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 December 2012

I love Mexican food. Tex Mex, West Coast Mexican, you name it, I like it. Armando's has excellent Mexican food. The service is top notch. But, $15 for chicken enchiladas? Sports fans, there's only so many ways you can make an enchilada. You will also find that the drinks are fairly spendy as well. This is a dark, 50's sort of romantic place which I find a bit dated. But, if that's your thing, this is a good choice. I just think you can get a better deal on comparable Mexican food at many places in Houston.

“Simple Refried Beans, Simply the Best”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 November 2012

I take great pleasures in simple foods and the refried beans at Armando's are worth the trip to the restaurant. I could be happy all day just with the Queso Flameado with Chorizo and the refried beans but I have to admit the Chicken Enchiladas for the last twenty years have sung to me. Armando's Cut, a wonderfully tender piece of tenderloin is divine. My wife loves the grilled vegetables.

This is a very nicely furnished restaraunt for a nice evening wearing nice clothes. Service is good, the drinks are strong and the food is worth the additional costs that you pay here compared to the average run of the mill Mexican restaraunt.

“Great for Thursday nights for those who did it in the 80's”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 November 2012

On Thursday nights, it's quite a scene. It's like a throwback to the old "singles bars" that I "have heard about" ;-) in the 1980's.

As to the food and drinks--it's expensive. Located in the chic River Oaks area, prepare to spend at least $60++ pp, dress well, pay the requisite (annoying) $5 plus expected tip valet fee. I still don't get the buzz (sorry, that was bad) about their $12-18 margaritas. They're ok, not great. Dinner is so-so.

I went last Thursday, and we had a prime corner booth. Service was attentive. The jalapeno margarita was better than the regular one which oddly lacked much lime or tequila flavor. The grilled veggie plate was good and the Tex-Mex plate had some decent flavors. Boring, congealed cheddar on the side order enchilada. The naughty bacon-fat-beans that people rave about? Yum. Otherwise, it's all just ok food, for a very expensive meal. Go for the vibe more than the food. Perhaps because I was in the mood for this dance-your-tush off, drink tequila and people-watching place, I had a really good time. Would I return for a blah $150 dinner for 2? No.

Thursday night is fun if you're "of a certain age," are comfy enjoy hanging with the fluffed-up crowd and the people watching at the bar is worth a lot. DJ starts at 9:30 Thursdays.

“Not worth the trip”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 January 2012

We went there this past Saturday and were very disappointed. The food tasted good but the margaritas were the worst I have ever had. Prices are way too high, the staff was not friendly, service was poor, too cold (AC blowing on us - in January) and too dark (could barely read the menu). Additionally, they force you to valet park as they put cones in the shopping plaza parking spaces, even though they are for other stores that are closed for the evening. Chuy's (next door) or El Tiempo are much better Mexican food restaurants.
