Nice hotel, friendly service, great breakfast and convenient to industries and attractions. The prices are reasonable and the rooms are larger than expected. I stayed here for over a month and I would definitely choose this location again if working in that area.

My husband, son, and I stayed here for two nights while visiting Rice university. We had a car, and it was an easy drive of just a few minutes to campus. While there's nothing especially picturesque about the area where the hotel is located, it was easy to access and seemed very safe. While in most respects this is a typical Springhill Suites, we thought that certain aspects were a cut above. For instance, the swimming pool was more well heated than at any other chain hotel we've visited, which made it a pleasure to swim during the cool evenings. The adjacent hot tub was, of course, even warmer. The pool area was nicely landscaped ... which often isn't the case at a chain hotel that's not a resort. We also thought that the breakfast was a notch above the standard hotel fare, and the breakfast area, which opened up onto a patio, was especially pleasant. In the fitness room there were some nice touches, too (fresh fruit, packages of free ear buds) and the equipment was in excellent repair and up to date. All of the staff members were very friendly. We would definitely stay here again if we return to Rice. The only thing that was a little odd (though certainly not a deal-breaker) was that there was only one mirror in the suite ... the one above the vanity in the bathroom. With two adults and a teenager trying to shower and dress in the morning, it would have been helpful to have another mirror above the desk or microwave/fridge area so that I could have used it to dry my hair and put on make-up while the bathroom was occupied. A full-length mirror is usually helpful too although sometimes it can feel like a be-careful-what-you-wish-for situation, especially when there are bathing suits involved. But other than that minor inconvenience, I am extremely glad that we picked this hotel for our Rice visit. There are more expensive hotels that are closer to campus, but given that we had a car, this was the best option for us. Also, the parking was free and easy. Some of the hotels closer to Rice required a fee for valet or underground parking. We, however, could see our car from the window in our room.

This was one of three Springhill Suites we stayed in during a recent trip to Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. It was okay but I would only choose to stay here again if attending an event at Reliant Stadium.

The great: There are so many people who work here and they are all very friendly and helpful. As a family of five, we thought the breakfast was great and the staff members did a wonderful job keeping up with hotel guests. They also kept the space clean and inviting - with a smile.

The popcorn was a big hit with our kids as were the cookies in the evening. The pool was heated as well and our kids enjoyed swimming. The location is central to local highways, restaurants, and stores. We were also able to walk and take the light rail to the Museum District. The hotel is surrounded by medical facilities but a little off the beaten path.

The not so great: We seriously thought of leaving the minute we got to our room. It was dark, dingy and not very pleasant. The carpet was strained and the room smelled. We also had a cracked bathroom sink that leaked when used. The fridge was also not working, which we reported and they fixed.

I spent a little bit looking at other hotel options, for which there were none, so we stuck it out. After one night and a pleasant breakfast, we asked to switch rooms and were given a new room without any issues - they moved us right away. We were hoping to get a room that had been updated (as shown on this website) but received the same looking room - but it was a better.

One issue with the layout of the suites is that living area has no windows and is very dark unless you have all the lights on. The bed mattresses, as others have mentioned, are rather worn (soft). The bathrooms are where the age of the building shows the most. The lack of mirrors (except in the bathroom) was very inconvenient.

If reviewing based on the lobby, staff, and breakfast (as well as location and price - we paid less than $100 each night), I would have rated this hotel close to five. But the rooms leave much to be desired.

My experience of this stay on Feb. 5th through Feb 16th was so surprising and this is just some of the experience. Arriving at the airport at midnight we were told the rooms were not available and were sent 45 minutes away after a not so apologetic or helpful response on what the manager, Dwan, would do to accommodate us at this time of night.. We were however sent to a Sleep In in Pearland TX where the manager Annell not only welcomed us but after the cab driver did not show up to take us back to the rest of the stay at Springhill Suites the next morning, drove us over in her vehicle. Upon arrival we left our bags at the hotel to attend the conference and came back at check in time to ask Dwan for our rooms, told they were not ready but another couple came in and the other front desk clerk called housekeeping to see if the rooms were ready and told yes. We were not accommodated until after two quests were helped. The next day at the conference, I called the hotel and got Dwan again to ask about the shuttle and he informed me that it would be coming around soon to pick us up only to find out that there was a schedule that we were not informed about and after waiting, over one hour walked back to the hotel. The worst part was upon departure when we asked if there was a shuttle to the airport Dwan called us a cab while we saw our friends catching the shuttle to the airport and we paid $65 more for a cab. Does the manager Dwan have any training on customer service? Did he care? We paid more to stay there, walked when we did not have to and met with a non interested manager on a daily basis. Definitely would not stay there again with that kind of guest service. Marsha Adams

First, the positive. The building was decent. Rooms were spacious and clean. My soap was discolored probably due to being old. There wasn't a day that the television did not have a problem. The first day I was there, the cable just shut down and the screen went gray. The next couple of days, every couple of minutes a message would pop up saying the card was inserted incorrectly. Not a crisis.

The bad. I arrive late (12 a.m.) and called for the bus to get me. The attendant told me they gave my room away (and business partner's room) and to take a cab to an alternate, distant location. The ride was over an hour and $110 (they did reimburse me). The next day I arrived at 8 a.m. before my conference and was told that the room would not be ready until 2 p.m. We came back at 2 p.m. and the same manager, Mr. Dwan Lightfoot, said no rooms were ready. They would be ready at 3 pm. We waited and at 3pm, he gave the same not ready answer. Dwan left the hotel and 2 other guests went to the desk and asked to check in. The woman said no rooms were ready, but she checked with the cleaning team and discovered that many rooms were ready. She processed them. I went up and she gave me my room. The night before we left, we asked if there was a shuttle to go to the airport and Dwan told me there was no shuttle, but he could call a car. I told him we chose the hotel because we were told there was a shuttle. He insisted there was no shuttle. We agreed to the car service. The next morning when we were leaving, we met with some other people and they told us they were taking the shuttle to the airport. Dwan flat-out lied to us. He was rude to my business partner, but she will provide her own story. That car cost me $80. I will NEVER recommend Springhill Suites ... EVER! You lost a customer for life.

We were part of a wedding party and stayed here for 2 nights. The check-in process was very quick. The staff were friendly. A limited variety for breakfast. Having said that, it was sufficient to keep us going. A good experience. The room was spacious and the proximity to Reliant park was an advantage. The elevators take a long time to come. We were on the top floor- 7th.
