We were huge fans of Vari, the previous restaurant at the same location. Food was awesome, genuine Indian authentic food and extremely tasty.
Mumbai cafe is definitely not Mumbai street food, and it does not have the same standard as Vari used to have.
Used to go to Vari minimum once a month, but since Vari became Mumbai Cafe, have only been there once. They have kept the prices same as Vari though not the standards. Also they include a discretionary service charge as part of the biil. Did not mind when it was Vari, as everything was just perfect. But for just normal Indian food, we wouldn't pay this!
But regardless, it is much better than other Indian restaurants around.

Dinner Saturday night 3rd May, we have eaten in Mumbai Cafe /Vari for years and you cannot fault the chefs/food and last night was no exception the food was great. The service on the other hand was not great, sat at table for 30 minutes with out being offered a drink, felt really sorry for staff as they were far too busy and couldn't keep up. If you don't have enough staff, then don't take as many bookings.
This is not the first time on the service, as the management clearly have issues in getting staff.
Venue is becoming cheeper by the day and now offering fish and chips take away in the window, it is an Indian restaurant, stick to what you should be providing your clientele, if you want to open a fish and chip shop there are plenty of empty premises in the village.

We visited the Vari mant times before and never had an issues and loved the food.
It was our first time at the re branded Mumbai cafe, it appears to be the same people as previous.
The bar tender was vert chatty and comical, which gave a very relaxed feel, all the waiting were very good and polite.
The food was excellent and what we left we took home in a doggy bag.
The only issue was the service charge for 2 people, which amounted to £ 7.30, as a couple we would have tipped £ 10 anyway but felt a little agreived that it was on the bill for 2, and we did not change it.
They would probabaly get more tips for the staff if they only charged service for 6 people and over, and allow the punters to make their own judgement.
We will definatley return however we will stick to the service charge costs they put on the bill which is a shame as the staff could do a lot better in tips.

We had our first takeaway from Mumbai cafe this evening and wow! Quick service, friendly staff, no compromise on the quality of the food, the same extremely high quality you receive when you dine in the restaurant. I Can honestly say it's the best takeaway I've ever had!
