We have visited historic Jefferson many, many times and had excellent stays at the McKay House and other B & B's. However, our most recent trip there was to participate in a Murder Mystery Weekend promoted on the Jefferson Hotel website. Having heard many good reports about similiar events and having always had excellent experiences in Jefferson, we signed up. What a disaster. The mystery drama was poorly organized and even more poorly executed. Many local townspeople participated in the event as "characters" along with about 15 paying guests. The event lacked historical and professional integrity. The local actors were ill-prepared, and crude in speech and behavior toward the guests. Many inappropriate actions occurred which were not in the context of the drama. Basically, the paying guests subsidized a wild fraternity-like party for the locals. Stay clear of this and any event organized by Jodi Breckenridge, ex-manager of the Jefferson Hotel.

Once used as a warehouse to store cotton, this lovely building changed hands numerous times. At the turn of the twentieth century it was transformed into a hotel and has served as a haven for weary travelers since that time. ... more less
