“This is an interesting museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 August 2013

What makes this museum interesting is that the contents of the museum have been donated or bequeathed from the estates of local persons. All the items have been placed with care. It is not a dusty museum. Everything is well cared for. The air conditioning is really good (we were there in August) and I was never overheated, even after climbing three flights of stairs. They have old gun collections, uniforms, Lady Bird Johnso'ns formal, steam engines from a train or steamboat, amazing antique clothing for ladies and babies, all kinds of native american artifacts. So much stuff in this museum and all of it takes you back to the old history of Jefferson Texas, which is the best kept secret in Texas!

“Enjoyable”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2013

$7 for adult, $10 if you want to see the train, which we did. There were a basement and 3 floors of an old government building, courthouse/post office. Filled with a variety of historical items.

I did not realize that Lady Bird Johnson was from Jefferson.

My favorite parts were the weapons room and the train, as I had a small train track set myself as a boy. Worth a look if you have never been but I don't know if I would be interested again now that I have seen it.

“Great Museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2013

Museum is all about the local area, many floors, and contains history of the business' that occupied the building throughout the years. There is also a miniature railroad exhibit at the back of the museum that is well worth the extra $ to visit in conjunction with the museum entrance fee.

“It was a museum...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 July 2013

It was located in a old, former government building. I guess I was expecting a majority of the exhibits to be specifically related to Jefferson. However, it was a mixture of local and other items. All in all, it was neat to see the old building, but can't say it was great.

“"Jefferson's history exposed in this surprising museum"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 June 2013

Jefferson Historical Museum is located at the end of Austin Street in the historic district, in what locals call the "old" post office and courthouse. On four floors, an amazing array of artifacts, art, history, doll collections, gun collection, arrowheads and the like are located. This city has an interesting background making this museum a pleasant interlude to shopping and eating in the fine restaurants. The wife and I were surprised at the quality of the collection and restoration of many of the displays. Allow an hour or so to visit. Fee reasonable, even consider a donation to keep this preservation effort alive.
