Our dirt trip right after the reopening was pretty bad (fall of 2011). We tried them again last evening and there has been much improvement all around. Whole catfish were excellent and nice size. Slaw was good - the waitress only brought a small bowl for four, but asked if we needed more when she saw how quickly we emptied it. Same for jalapeño hush puppies. The slaw was good. Puppies tasted good too. First batch may have been sitting a little too long after cooking; second batch was hot.

There were not as many people as the old days for a Friday evening. The poor quality after the reopening probably ran off a lot of customers. May be time to try again.

The main thing that get me is why would they ues that FISH FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY ????? You can tell it is when it is tough like it has a skin on it.When i finished eating i ask the waitress where it came from and she said he uses fish from here and another country!!!! I'm going to start asking where the fish is from before i eat. The service was bad,we sat at the table and waited for a long time but i dont mind waiting if the food is good. When the food got there everything was COLD.I was drinking coke and was never asked if i needed a refill.

Was really looking forward to some good catfish and hushpuppies. However, all we could taste was the grease-not sure if the grease wasn't hot enough when they cooked the fish or what but just not like we remembered the food served before the fire. Service was good and the place itself is a great place to spend some hours out on the deck but the food was just not tasty. The fish and the huspuppies tasted the same and the filets and wholefish were very small.

My wife and I have enjoyed Big Pines lodge for over 20 years and were very sad when it burned down a few years ago. The new Big Pines is better than ever with the outdoor seating looking out at Caddo Lake. Don't miss the catfish!

Before it burned down, it was a local staple. You had to eat there, or you weren't from East Texas!
Now, they're modernized it with the rebuilding. It's a wonderful place to eat still, and the atmosphere is almost as homey as it once was. It has a better view now, and the food is just as good.
