Very good selection of " American Diner" fair on a buffet. Food was fresh and at proper temps. Good selection at the salad bar, choices of cooked vegetables and three choices of meat and a very good baked fish. The bread pudding on the desert bar was home made a very good. Great Food at a very fair price ...... and .... we are not usually fans of buffets!

With a generous salad bar, a spread of vegetables, a selection of at least 2-3 meat dishes, and a dessert bar that almost always includes bread pudding, McKay's buffet is a treat for lunch or dinner most days of the week. Wednesday is one of my favorites because that's when they offer fried okra. Down-home Southern cooking is at it's best at this family-friendly restaurant in Kilgore, and the price will not empty your wallet. The service there is always quick, with smiling faces and a warm welcome. The sweet iced tea is yummy, but leave plenty of room for dessert - especially on the days they have warm blackberry cobbler!

Skip over this one if you are at all health conscious or even care about food. We went in on a Tuesday evening and thought we would find a buffet everyone would enjoy. All but the fish was fried. Fried chicken strips (ok, kids liked that), chicken fried steak and fried chicken. All of it was overcooked and very chewy. The veggies were from a can, mashed potatoes tasted "flaky" and the salad bar was a huge bowl of white lettuce followed by a few bowls of processed toppings. I tried 3 of the 5 dessert choices. Yuck! Was there anything that was "homemade" and not pre packaged or processed? Doubtful
So, now the price. $10 for adults (w/o drink) and $5.50 for kids (drink not included).
On a positive note, the staff was very nice and the restaurant seemed to be clean.

For a small town, Kilgore has one of the best buffet restaurants ever. McKay's changes the buffet every day (except fried chicken is always served..YUM!) so everyone can find a favorite. My problem is that everything is my favorite. This is down home cooking at it's best! Fried catfish, the best meatloaf ever, chicken fried steak, salisbury steak, chicken & spaghetti, goulash, ham....plus a variety of veggies that are freshly cooked: cabbage, mashed potatoes, green beans, pinto beans, squash, carrots, blackeyed peas, rice, french fries, homemade yeast rolls, gravies, a HUGE salad bar, two soups and a dessert bar with pies, cakes, bread pudding, cobblers.....ok, can you say "I just gained 10 lbs"????? Go early or go late but if you go at noon the place will be packed. The buffet is under $10 and it is the best deal in town. So what are you waiting for? Well???

This restaraunt has a buffet at lunch time that is well stocked and has many choices no matter what type of food you are looking for. It is a very popular lunch spot in Kilgore.
