“Not exactly great--not much lakeside view”
Reviewed 16 September 2011

The decor of cabin rental was old-style, not exactly lively. Seems like furniture had not been replaced in a long time. The only cool thing are natural landscaping and the deer, they fed right out of out hands. There is a nice kitchenette but we did not have pots and pans. Ok, it could use some remodeling to make the guests more comfy. Bedrooms could use some lively paint. There was a salon on the property, that was convenient, so I went there to get ready for the wedding reception in Lake Travis. The drive going into the actual marina was long, although then cabin sat on lakeside property... other lakeside properties were ultra expensive though. For the price, it was average overall. Not your conventional lakeside weekend rental.

This is a convenient locale near Austin. The drive is hilly and scenic. There is a pool, shuffleboard and tennis court. Deer are fascinating to watch. Our unit was clean and we liked the decor. Texas rustic! Beds were comfortable, not deluxe. Everything appeared updated except bathroom fixtures. They were probably from the 60's but they worked just fine and they were very clean. The grounds were well kept. The office was very accommodating. To stay in this area we will return.

Room Tip: I doubt if you can see water from any room so the.

Although I am usually very good about reading and paying attention to reviews, my husband and I had visited Lago Vista several years ago with a bonus week and thought we were returning to the same resort. We trade with TP now and must have been with RCI when we traded before. The previous resort was very nice--this one was not. First, the positive: the staff was very nice and the grounds seemed to be well-maintained. The unit was reasonably clean. The negative: when we arrived there was trash outside our door--it was removed after we called; the master suite had only a very soft double bed-not comfortable for 2 adults--we called and were told all units had double beds (not what one of the reviews says); there was no shower in the master bath--not ahuge problem for the 2 of us but it would have been had we had children or friends to share the 1 shower with; the jacuzzi in the master bath is old and not comfortable; the decor was extremely dated--cerca 1960?; the drape across the sliding glass door fell (along with the hardware) when the drape was moved; lamp shades were ragged; the kitchen was badly equipped-we had to make a trip to Walmart to be able to cook breakfast; the thermostat control was 'sticky' and required some patience; the heating unit did not heat the rooms evenly; there were signs warning you not to take off make-up with their towels--that you would be charged if you did so and stained them; the woodwork and cabinets were scuffed; the countertop in the kitchen had been cut many times and was very rough; there was no WiFi coverage in the units, only in the main office-our unit was right behind the main office and we did not have coverage so I can't imagine that other units did.

We stayed 4 of our 7 nights--only because we had made plans in the area and did not want to take time to find (and pay for) another place. I see now from the reviews that checking out early is a common pattern.

This resort apparently is very old and has not been well-maintained. It seriously needs up-dating--and has for decades. It is not even close to being what you expect from a timeshare exchange.

Oh--one more thing--bad reviews are apparently the norm, in the manager's letter in the information book in the unit he requests when you rate the resort that you "bear in mind that our resort is owned by individual timeshare owners such as yourself. Your comments and ratings to RCI and II directly affect their individual abilities to exchange to other vacation destinations. Please be fair and keep that in mind when ranking The Shores."

I have been fair--this is the worst resort we have ever visited.

Booked through one of RCI's excess inventory programs. Pay careful attention to the directions. Download street level map. Painless check-in with friendly helpful staff. Parking close to one story multi unit buildings (4-6 per building). Older units and some deferred maintainance. They appear to be doing a good job of prioritizing repairs. Everything in the unit worked and not too beat up. Could have been cleaner in the kitchen. Lower part of kitchen cabinets and refrig needed scrubbing. Good beds. Well supplied bathrooms. We had a small view of the lake from our deck. Very quiet area this time of year (Nov).
The neighborhood association runs a fitness club that is well used and equiped. You can use it if you sigh out a parking pass and door card from the front desk. It's about a mile away. We used it three times in the week we were there. Lots and lots of deer running around. Be carefull coming in after dark.
Good Wifi signal, but only in or near the office.

Clean, but terribly outdated. Aside from some newer appliances, not updated in years. Huge mirrors on walls. Bathroom: old, stained yellow fiberglass sink, corroded faucets, missing parts, and linoleum pulling away from the tub. Ceramic tiles cracked, and grout had been poorly repaired. Mold around the tub. Toilet seat had paint worn off. No place in master bedroom to put suitcase, except floor. Holes in two doors. Beds hard, linens cheap, no extra pillows, towels few and rough. Were told we had to strip the beds before we left. What the????? No one paid me to be the maid. We only stayed 3 out of 7 days planned.

i had some concerns after reading reviews on Trip Advisor and talked to the person at the desk about when the place was last updated. They lied. This place looks like it hasn't been painted in years and decor (other than the dining/ living area which is on the pictures), hasn't been updated since the 70's. This place should be crossed off your list.
