“Historical Treasure”

The American Wind Power Center has become one of our favorite places to visit. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. There are so many windmills to see! The history is priceless. The large mural has been completed and is amazing - so many details that tell a wonderful story of West Texas. This part of the world has a rich history and is often overlooked. It is so pleasant to stroll through the indoor windmills as well as the outdoor windmills. We took our grandson to see the Christmas train display and the volunteer working that morning turned off all the indoor lights so he could see how each little house on this displays were lighted up. Where else would you get such personal attention? Definitely a'must see' if in Lubbock, Texas.

If you are interested in windmills, then you would enjoy the wind power center. Attended a wedding at the Center and it was very pretty. Never would have thought about it for a wedding but it was a nice surprise.

“For Vintage Collectors”

After collecting and restoring many vintage windmills, we really enjoyed this collection.
We spent about 5 hours there but if not a collector it would only take about an hour to
tour. I think children would be bored but if you are a "Winter Texan" that remembers a
long time ago you will enjoy this.

Wind generation is not right for all locations, but it certainly makes sense in places that have 11 mph or above of constant wind. Of course, wind power is not "totally free" as there is an ROI on the infrastructure.
