Tumble In Marfa RV Park
GreenLeadersBronze level
Reviewed 6 July 2014

Hubby and I stayed with our two small dogs for the Easter weekend. Despite the size, small and quaint and it very much had the desert feel as well as the view of the beautiful mountains. It was quiet with the exception of the train a few feet away. Everything close by and a walking trail for our dogs. Restrooms and laundry area were clean. We will return.

We stayed three nights in the RV park May 19-21, 2014. We happened to choose the three days that were extra hot for Marfa - normal 80 degree temps soared to 91...There were only two other campers there, so we had it to ourselves. From the cute little trailer used for the check-in office to the available washer/dryer/stove and refrigerator was just enough for campers (on the honor system). We sat outside at nite and watched the beautiful stars. The only problem was not their fault - a wind storm came up every afternoon at about 3.....almost blew us away. We'd stay there again when in Marfa.

You could easily not notice or fail to take in just how cool a little spot the Tumble Inn is. The RV park is on Rte 90 east of Marfa, close enough that you could ride a bike into town. It seems to run on the honor system, with a little self check-in station as you enter where you consult a site map, fill out a form and pay via a lock box. There are a few sites for large RVs, some pull throughs, as well as sites for tents and small travel trailers all with hookups. The mountains are off in the distance, the dessert sunrises and sunsets are spectacular, and the trains passing by are reminiscent of a bygone time (though there are some who find them annoying at night). The bathrooms are spare and clean, the showers are slow (we are in the dessert) but warm enough. I was happy to find a dish washing sink, a communal kitchen that the proprietor had thoughtfully stocked with cheerful lights, games, a deck of CDs, a CD player, not to mention a wood stove with wood. I was able to prepare a stew and warm it on a stove while I checked emails, had a glass of wine, did laundry and listened to music. If you feel like sitting outside, there are a few chairs, and if you need a fitness center, there is a vintage stationary bike parked outside. Pure heaven for the long term traveler. The vibe here is more like a hostel than an RV park.

It is a flat parking lot with a lot of tumble weeds. The shower is slow but nice warm water. There is a train that runs very close. This is very close to Marfa. You could ride your bike to town. This is a great place to watch the sun set or possibly see the Marfa lights. This is a very simple and plain park- don't expect a lot. We never saw a manager or owner.

We just got back from staying at the Tumble In. We parked our RV there for 3 nights. This place is a gem. Cable/Water Hook ups for 80"/50" or smaller & tent pads. There were brand new bathroom & shower facilities. My girlfriends preferred showering in there rather than our RV b/c of the cold/hot water availability and cleanliness. It might be a little more cold in the winter but it looks like they are prepared b/c it had a heater on the wall. i think people come to Marfa for a different vibe and Tumble in is definitely is that. It has it's own character- cactus, christmas lights, natural wood, cute signs and well paved roads. It just kinda gives you that good ol west texas feel.

There is a self check in no hassle casita. They leave the Wifi password for you. Washer/Dryer on site. A communal refrigerator & sink as well as a picnic table ( all under a covered steel barn) This place is cool man. It's off Highway 90. Seriously you could walk into town. It's about a mile to Ballroom Marfa and another1/2 mile to mid downtown. Next time we will bring bikes. The train comes by and it isn't even loud just cool to see and hear.

The spaces are spread out and we were there with 2 other guests. You see them but can't hear. If you bring a tent bring food to store in the frige on site, Marfa gets slim pickings when it comes to grubbing super early/late hours. Overall, if you have the means stay here versus paying $100 plus at another spot which doesn't give you the beautiful west texas skies and blanket of stars. Check out my pictures, i travel alot and i mark this one down on the come back list. Good job Tumble In, can't wait to come back!

Stores/bars super nearby:
Lost Horse Saloon
Dollar General
Stripes gas station
anything is close in Marfa

Room Tip: You can either request a spot closer to the highway or mid to further back. Closer to the highway u...

Less than two miles from town and about 8 to the viewing platform, this park has a great location. hard packed road with loose gravel sites that are fairly level were no problem for our 40ftr and tow. bathrooms were rustic and clean. Self check-in was easy. WIFI worked well. There is no sprint phone service in the area. Clear view for tv satellite. Right off roadway but still quiet except for the train that runs behind the park, gotta love that whistle. Stickers (goat heads) are a big problem, they are in the grass and the gravel, so beware! We would definitely stay here again.

It is not much to look at from the road but it is spacious, with good hook ups, and despite being near a road and a railway is surprisingly quiet. The toilet block and shower area is quite new, and whilst it could do with a good clean was adequate for our purposes. We were the only people staying on the campsite so had the choice of areas to ourselves.

One thing to watch out for is what the owner called "stickers" which as the name suggests are pointed and stick to your shoes. It would be very painful were you to tread on one with no shoes on.

Marfa is about a mile along the road. It is a town where there are many artists and you can visit their exhibitions. It is also famous for its lights with viewing platforms to witness these unexplained events just out of town.

Overall a good place to stop in the area and also on the way to Big Bend. Very nice friendly owner.
