We spent the night in Marshall on a trip to southeast Texas. Our hotel was near many fast food places, but we preferred to drive across town to try something more local. Be aware that streets in the area of the charming square tend to be one way! We had read about Cajun Tex on TA. When you enter, turn to the right and there is a huge menu on the wall, really kind of overwhelming. I later found a little paper menu to take with us. The Hubs had the fried shrimp platter with fries. I had the crab cake platter. I wanted sweet potato fries, but they were out. I had fries instead. We paid at the counter (around $27) and took the number they gave us to a table. I got water for us. Tea, water, and soft drinks are self serve. Alcohol is BYOB only. The decor was interesting, part Cajun, part athletic team. Our meals were brought to us by a friendly server. Hubs enjoyed his. I loved the fries and really loved the hush puppies. The crabcakes were good with not a lot of filler. They were plenty spicy! Some Remoulade Sauce would have been nice with them. Neither of us cared for the coleslaw, and I normally love coleslaw. Truly, a cold beer would have been great with this meal! We were both very full afterwards. Hubs is already planning a return trip to get the chicken fried steak he saw being served. I'll save room for dessert next time. And bring my own beer. This is a fun place with friendly people and good food. Give it a try.
