It's not a park! I don't understand why they call it that. It's an antique house filled with antique items that you can walk through for a lesson in history, and one families story. It's a nice time, but the name is quite misleading.

I first read about the B&B located at the Starr Mansion in my Texas State Parks book. It sounded intriguing and a little out of the ordinary, so I figured why not. I really didn't have high expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised.

We stayed one weekend in Feb '02 (one of those freakishly warm weekends in Texas). Guests stay in the former servant's quarters (which is actually former-former part of the original Starr mansion). It is located in its own small building on the acreage of the park, and comes complete with one large room, bathroom and small eating area (w/ refrigerator and microwave)...very romantic. And on the weekends, save the daytime visitors to the mansion, you more or less have the entire park/mansion grounds to yourself! The park ranger who runs the place is extremely friendly too, and the rates (about $85/night) really can't be beat for what you're getting.

It is also conveniently located about 15 minutes away from Caddo Lake, should the urge to go canoeing/hiking strike you.

All in all, I would highly recommend staying here.
