Description: It is 1974 when Juan Francisco "Pancho" Ochoa begins his journey into the restaurant business. It initiates a wonderful family tradition, with the UNIQUE TASTE of great Mexican food. On January 6th, 1975 Pancho creates "El Pollo Loco" concept in his small hometown of Guasave, located on the Pacific Coast of Mexico. In 1980, this concept becomes the first Mexican restaurant chain to go go across the border, opening its first store in Los Angeles, California on Alvarado Ave. and 6th St. Pancho's passion continues in 1986, when he creates a new and innovating concept in Mexican food. On July 1st, 1987 he opens the first "Taco Palenque" with a distinctive quality, UNIQUE TASTE and good service that quickly developed and gained a good reputation throughout South Texas. On July 31st, 2005 Pancho and his son Charles, with the support of their family, open Palenque Grill in Laredo, Texas. The Ochoa family introduce Flerida Ochoa's (Pancho's wife) family recipes, creating a menu with excellent dishes of Mexican culinary traditions. On behalf of the Ochoa family, we thank you for visiting our small piece of Mexico. We are delighted to be able to serve you now in Laredo, McAllen and San Antonio, Texas.

I had the opportunity to eat at this restaurant and found it to be exceptional. I would most definitely return if I am ever in McAllen.

“Awesome Mexican Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2014

Was recommended that we come here by our hotel staff, and they couldn't have been more right. Everything here was authentic and delicious. Should have known it would be good by the larger number of locals and businessmen lining up to eat. Try a little of everything - the colorful margaritas are excellent. A real treasure.

“Great service, authentic Mexican food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 April 2014

This was our first visit. We went on a Friday evening and were seated immediately and within a minute, were served fresh warm chips with a wonderful bean dip and also a warm salsa. The atmsophere was very nice - linen table cloths, nice space between tables and warm lighting. We had a wonderful shrimp ceviche as an appetizer and beers were served with frosted mugs. My son and I both ordered Enchiladas verdes which were very good. My husband ordered chicken fajitas, the chicken was very good, but the only complaint is that it didn't come with grilled onions and peppers. They were served with warm tortillas and guacamole. Overall, we had a wonderful meal at a good price for such a nice restaurant. I would highly recommend it! The service was spectacular!

“Problems but well worth the trip, awesome place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 February 2014

We go to Mcallen several times a year. This trip to Palenque Grill was a great experience. The food was awesome aside from my overly charred but still tasty vampiros. The server actually noticed that two of the plates came out without avocado (we had almost finished) and offered to get some for us, we refused as we were already almost done and had enjoyed the meal. We were very polite and understanding (we didn't ask to speak to or even mention the word manager). To our surprise the manager showed up to apologize and offer us free desserts which we declined because we were pretty full. she insisted and we had some wonderful tres leches cake. prolly the second best i have eaten. needless to say we were very pleased and will definitely return. Great customer service.
