We've been to this Russo's a few times, though we usually order something other than the pizza. (Nothing the matter with the pizza - just wanted something else.)
This time was no different - we both wanted pasta. I knew I wanted the lasagna, but my wife wanted something she knew was not on the menu - a penne dish she loved from a restaurant overseas where we used to live. After the waiter took our drink order, she kept talking about it. As the waiter approached our table with the drinks, he asked her what she wanted and she described the dish to him. Much to our surprise, he wrote down the ingredients and description of the dish - and took it to the chef. The resultant dish was excellent - and quite close to the original.
We were amazed that a chain restaurant would do this - and that the idea came from our waiter. Antonio was a superb waiter and the food was excellent. Needless to say, we left a generous tip for both Antonio and the chef.
