“Wonderful - if you're steady on your feet”

I love this step back in time open air market. Depending upon the season it is open on Saturdays. Local farmers and craftsmen display their products. Organically raised foods, homemade soaps, local honey, hand quilted linens and much more. It's a very inviting, family environment with lots to see and explore. The only downside is that, because it is an authentic and very old site, the paths are uneven (very) and narrow. Families who try using those large strollers inadvertently clog up the flow for everyone because there isn't enough room for their size. Additionally, people who need assistance devices for balance beware, this is not an easy place for a stroll. Actually, I think it unwise for a person who requires a cane for assistance to attempt which is a shame because there are so many treats to see and experience. So, for the agile and ambulatory, this is an outstanding location very much worth visiting.

“History, food, and a whole lot more”
Reviewed 24 September 2013

Chestnut Square Historic Village is a collection of homes circa 1854 until 1920. Each home is furnished with period furniture, some of which belonged to the occupants of the homes. The oldest house is the Ferris House which was built in 1854 and moved to the property. They also host weddings and wedding receptions. Each Saturday morning the McKinney Farmer's Market is there along the buildings. The McKinney Farmer's Market was voted #1 in TEXAS and that is quite an accomplishment. Each year, Chestnut Square hosts several special events such as the Ice Cream Crank Off, Spirit of the Cowboys Celebration (for you western movie and serial fans), Ghost Walk, and Holiday Tour of Homes.

“Lots to do, shop and see!”
Reviewed 21 August 2013

We've been to the Saturday morning Farmer's Market and it gets very busy. Get there by or before 9 AM for the best selection of produce and baked goods. Vendors run out of the choice selections quick! Also a good place to bring your well-behaved pets. There is no fee for going to the Farmer's Market, just what you buy.

We have also been to Chestnut Square for the Haunted Tour and that was a lot of fun!!! It was a great evening out for us -- a date night. Would also be fine for kids not too scared in the dark, but young enough who are not too old for some cheesy laughs - probably 7 - 13 year olds. Teenagers do tend to lose their sense of humor. ;) There is a fee for the Haunted Tour.

We did go back to Chestnut Square in the daylight for a tour of the historic homes. There was a special event going on so it was busy. Check their website for event schedules. Sometimes there is something going on where they have the area / homes decorated special which makes it extra nice, other times not, but still nice place to see and learn about all the history in that area of McKinney. Some areas of Chestnut Square are open without a fee, some houses and then to get a guided tour, there is a fee.

“Quaint area”
Reviewed 21 August 2013

Loved walking around here, looking in the windows, stopped at a couple restaurants. Plenty of parking available just off the square.
